dutchxperienz
Dominant Smoltz Keeps Phillies in Check Left: Brian McCann hits Atlanta's second homerun, putting another three runs on the scoreboard. Right: Smoltz was an important factor for the Braves, pitching 7.2 innings and giving up only 4 hits. April 4 Atlanta Braves (0-0) @ Philadelphia Phillies (0-0) The Atlanta Braves enjoyed a great start to the season, beating their rivals, the Phillies. The Atlanta pitchers did their job, with the veteran John Smoltz, leading the way (10 strikeouts and 4 hits in 7.2 innings). He kept the Philadelphia batters contained and was an important factor in his team's victory. Although quite an uninspiring game for both teams from the offensive point of view, Atlanta sluggers Matt Diaz and Brian McCann capitalised on the weakness of Phillies reliever Ryan Madson to put another 4 runs on the scoreboard, and ensure a successful start to the season for their team. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel felt the pressure in the bottom of the 6th which any manager would after watching his team fire blanks all afternoon, and after arguing with the umpire, was ejected from the game. The Braves will take the confidence gained from this great start into their next game against the Phillies. Player reaction: John Smoltz on his start to the season: "You know, its just great when you begin a new season like this. Not just for me, but for the team as well. I may have thrown 10 strikeouts, but all the rest was done by our infielders, who were running double-plays all afternoon." dutchxperienz
Starting Pitching Continues to Do its Job Left: Matt Diaz hit his second homerun in two games, and added two more runs to Atlanta's tally. Right: A spectacular, and vital, catch from Philadelphia's Wes Helms in the top of the eigth. April 6 Atlanta Braves (1-0) @ Philadelphia Phillies (0-1) Tonight, the Braves were, again, able to rely on their starting pitcher on their way to securing a win in their second game of the season. Tim Hudson, although he only struckout three batters, kept his pitches low in the zone, allowing the players behind him to make the necessary plays. As a result, there were several 1-2-3 inning for the Phillies, who were unable to provide any real competition for Atlanta. On the other hand, there were several highlights for the Braves on a night where they were never in any danger of losing. Matt Diaz hit his second home run in as many games to maintain a SLG of 1.125. This brings his total RBI up to 4, equal to catcher Brian McCann, who brought in Jeff Francoeur off a single to right field. Francoeur himself made his presence known with a one-out solo homerun in the second. The Atlanta relievers also performed when called upon. Tyler Yates replaced Hudson in the sixth and only needed 19 pitches in three innings. He was then replaced by Bob Wickman who, after giving up a single to Chase Utley, picked up his first save. Manager Reaction: Bobby Cox on the team's victory: "We aren't that worried that many of our batters, like Kelly and Andrew, haven't been able to find their rhythm yet, because our pitching has been solid and hasn't given the opposition any room to manoeuvre. As long as they keep performing consistently, we know we will do well because guys like Matt and Brian will always be around to bring in the runs." dutchxperienz
Breaking News: Third baseman Chipper Jones recently bruised the palms of his hands and has been placed on the 15 day disabled list. The 24-year-old Willy Aybar has been promoted from AAA-Richmond to fill the gap. Aybar has not yet seen any action this season as the Richmond Braves play their first game on April 7. However, in 105 career games, he has 96 hits with a batting average of .292. The Braves medical staff believe that Jones will be eligible to come off the DL in around eight days, in time for the last home game in a 3-game series against the Nationals, on April 14. Jones is understandably upset with his injury but is able to accept the situation he is in, realising that he must sit this one out. "When I swing, my wrists hurt; my thumbs hurt," he said. "It's impossible to use my hands."
alcoholicstepfather
Good to see a Braves dynasty. What level/sliders/datafile are you using? BTW you might want to consider using Yunel Escobar at third since Aybar is still suspended by the club. He wasn't coming to the park when he was injured to start the season
dutchxperienz
Level: All-Star Fielding: Manual Batting View: Hitter's Eye (or whatever its called) Pitching View: Angle (i think) Strikezone: Off Hot/ Cold Zones: Off Pitch Cursor: On Hitter's Eye: Off Sliders: Pared's, Hoops27 Datafile: Trues Rosters: UR 8.1 Standard
dutchxperienz
And I was planning on using Escobar to replace Chipper but for some odd reason he's not in my game, so I'll have to compromise on the level of reality on this one. Besides, I think Aybar and Escobar are roughly equally talented players.
dutchxperienz
Does anyone have any good ideas for presenting the standings after every game? I think that is the weakest part of my dynasty/presentation. Thanks

dutchxperienz
Thanks, I didn't know that. Is it possible to install new rosters and use them with this dynasty?
Mav3rek
nice dynasty so far! Yes you could replace the rosters in your dynasty with new ones if you wish. You would have to have the following programs: .dat importer/exporter and the new roster files you would open up your dynasty game, alt+tab back to windows. Run the .dat exporter...let it do it's thing. then copy the roster files into this directory and choose to overwrite them when asked, and then import them back into your game. dutchxperienz
Chipper Who? Left: Jarrod Saltalamcchia throwing Chase Utley out at second. Right: Andruw Jones hits his first homer of the season, bringing in 2 runs, and giving the Braves the lead again. April 7 Atlanta Braves (2-0) @ Philadelphia Phillies (0-2) Despite third baseman Chipper Jones being placed on the DL, the Braves squeezed out a win against the Phillies today to complete the sweep. Although reports had indicated that hot prospect Willy Aybar would come in to the squad to replace Jones, Jarrod Saltalamacchia made his MLB debut behind the plate while first-string catcher Brian McCann moved over to third base. They both flourished in their respective positions, with Saltalamacchia throwing Chase Utley out at second on an attempted steal and McCann getting two important assists and a putout. McCann was by far Atlanta's best player and proved it by getting a hit and extending his hitting streak to three games. Chuck James became the first starter not to pick up a win as, after struggling through the early innings, he was replaced by reliever Macay McBride, who picked up the win instead. Bob Wickman came in in the last inning to get his second save of the season. Although Atlanta pulled ahead in the first inning and held on for seven more, Phillies second baseman Utley hit a two-out three-run homer to give his team a 3-2 lead. However, the Braves came back in the ninth when Andruw Jones hit his first homer of the season, bringing in Scott Thorman in the process, and giving Atlanta the advantage once more. Player Reaction: Brian McCann on his performance as third baseman: "I think I'll stay here! But seriously, I'm glad to have performed well for my team at a time when we're missing an important player. Jarrod did his job really well, too."
