I can't play or do anything for that matter cause this piece of dog sh*t crashed my computer..

Do not install XP SP2, since then I have reformatted my desktop twice, and I can't get half the device drivers working (including my video, so I can't play any games).

The craziest thing is that it installed fine on my laptop, which is now the only functional machine I have. I lost ALL my non backed up game files on my deasktop :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Has anyone else downloaded this crap???

...PS, sorry I know this isn't totatly related, but not being able to play my game for the last 3 days is pissing me off... Thanks for nothing Microsoft

No problems here, I've been running a 'beta' version of SP2 for about 2 months now, and this week updated to the full released version, and I'm playing no problem.

My daughter's computer, on the other hand, lost all sound after installing SP2 and I still haven't figured it out.

For whatever reason, it must have to do with your computer. I installed SP2 and I'm using XP Pro. and everything is just fine. All my games play,

MVP, HH, MOHAA, Chess..........all of them........without any gliches. You may want to check your computer's compatability with the new SP. It is, in all likelihood either your video card or perhaps not enough ram. In anycase, check your computers resources to be sure you can run the new SP2.

Microsoft is not at fault. Perhaps an upgrade for you is in order.

After I reformatter, I tried installing SP2 before I put anything else back on the machine (cause I love to be pissed off, or something)...

Anyway, I installed stuff 1 by 1, and everything went nuts when I installed my SBLive Drivers... the funny thing is, I had sound until I installed the drivers!

I uninstalled SP2, and still can't get my sound back :banghead:

I'm thinking it's time to reinstall XP for the 4th time in the last 2 days, but this time, no SP2... still no problems on my laptop though, it's stange, cause both are P4's, with similar resources, in fact the desktop that is messed up had way more memory... oh well

Here's my advice to all you out there... IF you choose to install SP 2, MAKE SURE you have everything backed up!!!

How abouyt instead of complaining about your problem, actually contacting Microsoft and your sound card manufacturer to see if they have any advice, rather than ranting and raving, then installing updating drivers when everything is working?

It's been known for a while now that SP2 would cause some problems, and most, if not all, have been sorted. It's just a matter of actually trying to fix it, rather than just complaining and not actually doing anything.

And as far as I remember, Microsoft recommends you back everything up before installing SP2. So if you didn't, they are hardly to blame.

wow, I love how people just jump on me cause I had probs with this thing... somehow a few a you missed the point though of my post:

1. Yes, I was upset and needed to vent cause I wanted to enjoy my weekend and play the playoffs in my MVP dynasty

2. I wanted to see if anyone else had similar problems

3. I wanted to warn people that if they download it, beware (it worked and installed fine on my laptop)

...now to respond more directly to some of the replies I got...

I did have about 90% of my stuff backed up on an external HD, just not all of it was not backed up as of the day I installed SP2 (including my most current MVP save files, I have A copy of it, just from a little over a week ago)

About uninstalling SP2, would have been nice, but SP2 messed up some of my main device drivers. The craziest thing was different drivers would not work every time I rebooted, sometimes it was sound, sometimes video, hell, one time even my CD-Rom drives went out. It was just crazy whatever SP2 did. I could only boot in safe mode, and then the uninstall setup would just lock up when I tried to run it. Trust me, I tried everything possible before I reformatted (I also tried to get my data to the external HD, but apparently those drivers were messed up to cause I could not copy files at all), I even tried removing SP2 through the recovery console.

Now, I have everything back up and running, but I will NOT install SP2 on my desktop again. It took my weekend from me once, and that's enough. Like I said before, just beware if you have not yet downloaded this.

SP2 contains more security features to protect your computer from viruses and spyware, etc. I can see why it can cause problems because of all the critical system files it has to replace.

By the way, there is a "system restore" feature in XP to revert your computer settings back to a certain date. I don't think a lot of people know about this feature...but it's there (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore).

I installed SP2 and it works fine...just don't run any programs while it's installing...I remember that before installing SP2, XP creates a restore point, so you can just go back to that point...it probably could've saved you the hassle of uninstalling and reinstalling everything.

I believe that is what he meant when he said "I even tried removing SP2 through the recovery console."
