Danny Almonte

So how many remember the little league scandal in 2001? I remember watching as a 14 year old, and watching the famous Danny Almonte. Well, we all know the story about what happened. Anyway, Danny has now migrated to the great area of Southern Illinois. He plays for the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League. I have had the luxury of watching him pitch twice, as I only live 20 mins from the park. This kid has some electric stuff. He hasn't pitched incredibly well in either start, nor has he pitched bad. His stuff is there, but the run support wasn't in both starts I saw. You can visit the link to the box score. You will se that if he had gone one more 1/3 of an inning he wouldve gotten the win, as the Miners plated 4 in the bottom of the inning he came out it. He was'nt in a jam when he was taken out. There was a man on 2nd and with a 2-1 deficit, he was pulled for a specialist pitcher. Here is the link for the box score, I will keep posted on his future starts. http://www.frontierleague.com/2007scores/sil6060.html

I remember reading something about when he turned 18 he got married.

I also believe to a women about 10 to 15 years older than he was?

Is he still married? And after all the hype over that little league, I hope one day he does make it to the bigs.

He has good stuff, I've seen him a couple of times on various websites. The problem with him getting to the bigs is all the hype comes back.

I dont know about the kids but I do believe he is married. He isn't really a big kid. I stood next to him before one of the games and he was chatting with one of the Miners workers. He seems friendly, although I never got a chance to speak to him. If I had a camera on me, I would've gotten a pic with him. Thats one good thing about these small leagues, players are fairly fan oriented, and they are'nt always on the field doing whatever. You can sometimes catch the manager walking the concourse.

I played against him about 5 years ago in a tournament, but he didn't pitch.

He came late to the game in a convertible with someone who we guessed was his agent, followed by a news van.

I went 2-3 with a double off former Padres pitching prospect, Ben Howard in high school. He's pitching in Iowa for the Cubs this season...no longer a prospect.

Well I'm still to young obviously to have played with anyone who is a prospect or in the bigs, or whatever, but I'm sure some will be.

My neighbor is going to Ogelthorpe on a baseball/academic scholarship. he had an offer to play at Valpo, but declined because of playing time issues. And someone who helped out at one of my baseball camps is going to be a sophomore next year at Stetson, and he's there on a baseball scholarship. Also, there's a pitcher down here who is going to be a senior next year, and if he doesn't go to college, he'll be an early draft pick.
