Breaking News out of the Reds Front Office

Steve Phillips has been named as the new GM of the Reds. You may know Steve from the popular highlight show, Baseball Tonight, where he works as a baseball analyst. But Steve was once the General Manager of the New York Mets, and the Reds hope that his experience in the front office can bring a tradition of success to the organization.

Steve said this on the matter, "You know, I have been hoping for an opportunity like this to come a long for a while now. And while I'd like to thank the Reds for bringing this opportunity, I'd also like to thank ESPN and the guys at Baseball Tonight, who allowed me to work there for the last couple years. I believe my work on the show, proved to people out there that I know what I am talking about, and that I can be an asset to any organization in this league."

Opening Day 2007

U98-1182052894.png

Excitement is in the air as the Reds gear up to play their first game of the season against their long time division rival, the Chicago Cubs.

Pitching Matchup:

Chris Young:

The Reds new GM Steve Phillips made this move within days of accepting his position here with the Reds. Phillips raved about Young's ability to dominate hitters with only two pitches. Young uses his surprisingly sneaky fastball to get ahead in the count and then buries them with his filthy slider. Lets hope Young can stifle a potentially potent Cubs offense.

Carlos Zambrano:

Zambrano has proven himself one of the best pitchers in the league. His intensity brings something to the mound that puts fear in an opposing hitter's eye. But he does have the tendency to self destruct when things go wrong. If the Reds get on him early, it should be a win for Cincy, but if not, you can rack this one up for the Cubbies.

Pitching Matchup:

Homer Bailey:

Tonight Homer Bailey, the highly touted young pitcher, will make his major league debut. Bailey tells us, "I've been nervous for about the past week. Its not a bad nervous though, these butterflies in my stomach usually get me pumped up. I'm glad my first start is against a long time NL Central rival too; It just makes this game all the more meaningful."

Shawn Chacon:

Chacon, who pitched for the Yankees last year, looks to make his mark here starting in tonights game. Chacon has great stuff, but his lack of control and tendency to leave fastballs up has caused him to be quite inconsistent. Look for Chacon to come out with a chip on his shoulder as he wishes to prove to everyone that he truly can be a force in this league.
