Right now it's May25th and I've got a 3 game series with the Reds coming up.

Pirates Blast Reds 9-3

4raet8k.jpg

Cincinnati, OH -- The Pittsburgh Pirates opened up this 4 game series against the Reds with a 9-3 win tonight over Cincinnati. Tom Gorzelanny picked up his 3rd win of the season, by going 5 innings and allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. Kyle Lohse fell to 2-4 on the season taking the loss for tonights game. Lohse went 6 innings but allowed 11 hits and 6 runs, 5 of which were earned. Jack Wilson got the Pirates on the board in the top of the 1st with his 2nd homerun of the year. Gorzelanny wouldn't be able to hold the lead for long, as the Reds came firing back with a run of their own in the bottom of the first thanks to an Adam Dunn triple. The Pirates would immediately answer back though in the top of the 2nd with 4 runs of their own thanks in part to a two run double by Ronny Paulino. Again though Gorzelanny would struggle in the bottom half of the inning and gave up 2 runs on back to back singles with the bases loaded by Kyle Lohse and Ryan Freel. With the score now 5-3 Gorzelanny would settle down and didn't allow another run in his time in the game. The Pirates would tack on a few more runs thanks to Don Kelly's 3rd pinch hit homerun of the season in the 6th and Adam LaRoche's Major League Leading 23rd home run in the 9th off of Gary Majewski. Paul Maholm, Damaso Marte, and Saloman Torres combined to pitch 4 scoreless innings in relief and helped to propel the Pirates to a 9-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

Pirates Complete Trade for Philip Hughes

Pittsburg, PA (AP)-- Today the Pirates completed a trade with the New York Yankees that will send young starting pitcher Philip Hughes to the Pirates in exchange for RP Franquelis Osoria. The Yankees had placed Philip Hughes on the trading block early into the season declining to comment on the reason for their decision. There have numerous rumors out of New York saying that Hughes had a run in with owner George Steinbrenner in which Hughes insluted the owner several times. Hughes is considered to be a very good prospect with a bright future in the league. It is believed that the Yankees did not make a very good deal, but were not looking for value in the trade and just wanted to get rid of Hughes because of the circumstances surrounding his run in with Steinbrenner. The Pirates made the deal mainly because of their need to strengthen their starting rotation. Several of the starters have been struggling, but the Pirates have managed to stay near the top of the Central so far this season.

In addition to the Hughes trade the Pirates made a smaller deal in swapping outfield prospects with the New York Mets. The Pirates sent right fielder Adam Boeve to the Mets in exchange for Caleb Stewart. No additional details were available at press time.

yeah, I tried to make it more fair, but with Hughes only making 100K and with fair trades on they wouldn't let me add anyone else to the trade b/c the salaries wouldn't have been even. But if the CPU accepts it, it's not cheating!

Hughes Dominant In First Start For Pirates

52c70n4.jpg

Cincinnati, OH -- Young pitcher Philip Hughes had a successful debut tonight fo the Pirates, going 6 strong innings, allowing 8 hits and just 1 earned run. Hughes led the Pirates with his strong outing past the Reds 5 to 1. Pittsburgh jumped out to an early lead in the 2nd with an RBI double by Jose Bautista. The lead would remain 1-0 until the top of the 6th when the Pirates would add 3 more off of Reds starter Matt Belilse to extend the lead to 4 to 0. The Reds broke through with their only run in the bottom of the inning thanks to Adam Dunn's 12th homer of the year. The Pirates would add another run to extend their lead to 5-1 and that's where the game would end. Hughes picked up the win and now raises his record to 6-3 on the year. Belilse took the loss and fell to 1-6. Due to a security threat before the game, photography was not allowed at todays game.

Buco Quotes:

Pirates Manager Jim Tracy:"It's nice to be able to come in here on the road and win the first couple games. Now we just need to win one of the final two games and we'll have won the series. Hughes was dominant today, and if he can continue to play at this high level the rest of the season we will be in great shape come September."

Starting Pitcher Philip Hughes:"It's hard to get traded and then be immediately be thrust into a starting role. I was in a set rotation with the Yankees and things just happened to work out to where I was able to make my start today. I'm happy with the way things turned out, and I'm committed to helping this Pirate team win, and to put the Steinbrenner debacle behind me."

First, you can turn fair trades off. Second, while it may not be considered "cheating" it is so lopsided that it might as well be cheating. And third, this unrealistic trades really takes away from a quality dynasty.

It's not like I traded away the whole team or anything like that. I just traded for a prospect. Not every deal in the MLB is fair. Sometimes 1 sided trades happen. I tried to make a spin on it that would make it more real world realistic.

Either way, no one forces you to follow. Follow the dynasty or don't. Won't hurt my feelings if you choose not to.

Nice job handling constructive criticism....

You stated you tried to make a spin to make it more "real world realistic" but if that was the case, it would take half your roster to pull that move off. The Yanks would never get rid of Hughes, especially for the likes of Osoria.

It's your dynasty to do as you will. I recommend picking up Miguel Cabrera for Batista. That should give you the extra pop to your lineup to send you deep into the playoffs...?

:stupid: :plzdie:

if you had offered constructive criticism instead of coming off as a pompous jerk it would have been different.

anywho....back to the dynasty....

great deal mav3rek and great win for hughes....hopefully he'll turn around your rotation :)

that would be my hopes. Most of the rotation thus far has an E.R.A. over 5. I'm hoping that he will help stabilize my rotation a bit.

Pirates Take Series, Look For Sweep

6c58bp4.jpg

Cincinnati, OH -- The Pittsburgh Pirates have taken the first 3 games of thits 4 game series from the Reds and now look to complete the sweep. The Bucs knocked off Cincy today 7-3, thanks in large part to a stellar performance from both Shawn Chacon, and Adam LaRoche. Chacon pitched a solid 6 innings allowing just 2 runs to pick up his 5th victory of the year and move his record to 5-2. Adam LaRoche helped to make sure the Pirates kept their lead by hitting homeruns number 24 and 25 on the season. LaRoche finished the day 3-4 with 2 homeruns and 4 RBI. Not only does LaRoche have 25 homeruns now, he also raised his batting average to .425. If LaRoche can continue his monster play, he is projected to not only hit over .400 for the season, but to also win the triple crown. The Pirates again jumed out to an early lead, this time off of Reds starter Aaron Harang. With runners at 2nd and 3rd, Jason Bay took a 2-1 pitch in the top of the first and sent it into the left field bleachers to take an early 3-0 lead. LaRoche would hit his first homer of the game in the top of the 3rd and would extend the Pirates lead to 5-0. In the bottom of the inning the Reds would break through thanks to a Ryan Freel single that would plate one, and the lead was now 5-1. Adam LaRoche would add another homerun in the top of the 8th to extend the lead to 6-1 and the Pirates wouldn't look back any futher as they finish what they start and take the game 7-3.

Buco Quotes

LaRoche:"Things couldn't be better for me right now. I'm seeing the ball extremely well and just hope I'll be able to continue this level of play all season."

Jim Tracy:"We've seemed to have turned a corner and are now playing at the level that we are capable of. I expect us to come out tomorrow and finish the sweep and to continue to rise to the top of the Central."

Hey Mav3rek,

Did you increase LaRoche's power/contact numbers? This guy has 25 jacks in 51 games (the roster I'm using has him at 71/55 and 83/72).

nope, he's just been a beast this year:
