MarkB
I'm sure quite a few people know of at least one or two places that we could visit to spread the word about, or help out, a particular cause, but one of the main reasons a lot of people don't is simply that they don't know anywhere they can go to make a start. Well, this thread should kill another excuse not to spend a tiny portion of your time helping out a good cause. If you know of any websites that you'd like to post that have a good cause, post them here and I'll add them to this post. I'll start off with 3. This one, originally posted by fred13, raises funds for HIV and AIDS research. Bristol-Myers is donating a dollar to AIDS every time someone goes to their website and moves the match to the candle and lights it. Please forward this to your friends to spread. It takes a second to raise a dollar. www.lighttounite.org/ This one, originally posted by SeanRobinson, raises funds for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Two of my college buddies (they're brothers) have been personally (within their family) very affected by leukemia/lymphoma. Both live and breathe baseball. They've decided to combine their two passions by visiting EVERY major league park this summer, and hope to raise $30,000 in the process, to go towards the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Read their website for more information: www.30gamesfor30k.com So what does this have to do with any of you? These guys can use as much support as they can get. That doesn't just mean $$, though that certainly helps, too--basically, if you have any interest in this topic, get in touch with them and spread the word. They'd especially love it if you were to meet up w/ them at a game when they come through your area--think of it as an additional excuse to get out to the ballpark! And this one, which I don't think has been posted here, but I've been visiting it almost daily for years, provides one cup of staple food to the hungry and is funded by advertisers. www.TheHungerSite.com --- This one, posted by Homer, was set up by Christopher and Dana Reeve and funds research aimed at curing spinal injury and improving the quality of life for those who have suffered a spinal injury. http://www.christopherreeve.org/site/c.geI...k.CC03/Home.htm --- Remember to take a look around the sites as well, as there are quite often links to other sites for various other causes. Post any other sites you know of and I'll add them to this. Thanks. :)

fred13
Anyone work with the homeless? If so what do you do? For the last 3 years or so, I've been volunteering for this program called, "Out of the Cold". Once a week I go down and serve food and just talk with a bunch of the people who come in. TwentySeven
http://www.freerice.com This is a website that lets you study/practice vocab and at the same time donates ten grains of rice for every word that you get right. It's a good way to practice for SAT's, at least for me.
UncleMo
How do you know they will give up the rice though?
TwentySeven
How do you know they will give up the rice though? We don't, but the companies on there are fairly reputable, and besides of which, it's still a good way to study vocab.
