dutchxperienz
Hey, I'm planning on buying my first New Era cap soon (prob a 59FIFTY) and was wondering if I should break it in or not. Breaking it in right away could be an expensive decision as its a permament thing, but on the other hand, I don't want to look like a wigger if I don't break it in (does it make guys look like wiggers?). Any advice? Thanks (Btw, no offense to wiggers )
zneal89
break it in....the best thing to do.... plus a curved bill looks better anyways!
Steve822
I wear mine with a slight bend and definately take the stikers off, I think that looks silly leaving them on, but do what you think looks cool, I rock mine crooked about 15 degrees to the left but I don't like the straight flat brim, it doesn't fit my mellon head right. Anyways my suggestion is slight to moderate bend and break it in cause you should be comfortable, and DON"T ever put it in the washer I my wife ruined my last hat like that and I can't afford a 30 dollar hat everytime it gets messed up. kgbaseball
I go through a rigorous "breaking in" ritual after I get a new hat. I only buy 5950's, and I always buy them 1 hat size too big. When I first get them, I immediately put a rubber band around the brim for a week or so to get the brim nice and flexible. After it's to my liking, I put the hat on and drench it in water so it shrinks to fit my head perfectly. Wear the hat until it dries so it shrinks just right. After that, do all the pulling and yanking and adjusting you want to the hat and brim until it's perfect.
dutchxperienz
Thanks for the advice. Btw, will the hat shrink everytime it rains?
zneal89
In addition to the rubber band scheme...you can curl the brim of your hat into a coffee mug and leave it for a few days as well....
thespungo
The new hats aren't suppose to shrink because they're made of a new material blend. I did the usual shower drenching trick that worked with the older hats, but it didn't really do the job on this year's new hat. What I want is a quick way to get the hat loose and flexible. I want the brim to stay hard and curved, but I'd like to remove the rigidness that's in the crown of the cap.
D-Unit
I just bend the cap. lol
Pirate
I round out the brim and that is all. Why all this work? Why not buy a hat that fits and just wear it? I have heard of people ripping out seems and stuff, but the hats fit me great so I never do more than bend the brim.

Hokie20
I do the same thing KG does. I wet the hat the first night in warm water, then wore it for about 4 hours. As it dries, grab the bill with your left hand and pull back on the hat with your right (that takes away the crown as it dries). It breaks in real easy, and I don't look like a train conductor the next day. I use the rubber band trick too, but only once overnight.
59FIFTY
The hot watet technique doesn't work with the performance caps aight cause theire made out of cotton instead of wool. But i bougt a new performance cap a few weeks ago but i like the high 'crown' and i always keep the shiny sticker on the bottom its cool. But i don't like the fact that the performance caps don't have a sizing sticker than you can put under the bill or you have like a huge sticker under the bill:P
NYM
What I do is when I'm around the house I wear my hat backwards, but make sure you put it on so it feels its stretching. Do this for about a week and it should look good. Also just wearing the hat helps the mold.
