therock17024
A-Rod was asked during the home run derby by Chris Berman whether he will return after this season....A-Rods response "I DON'T KNOW". Wow as a huge and die hard yankee fan this is going to kill us man. No one in that yankee lineup can replace him in the middle of the order and i doubt they will trade for someone that will even come close to eating up his stats like a miggy cabrera or someone because they would have to give up Hughes. The best thing the yankees can do is just take the 2008 season and not worry about contending. They would save ALOT of money by letting A-rod go, and on top of that Carl Pavano's 10 Mil and Jason Giambi's 20 Mil per year will ALL be gone after the 08 season so that means the yankees will have a TON to spend on players. For the 2008 season they should just get there young pitchers ready for 09 and focus on making their team younger. Hughes, Chamberlain, Clippard, and who knows they might even make a run at Santana they will have the $$$. This is a great chance for the yankees to just take 1 YEAR off and try to rebuild during that one year for 09 its the best thing they can do, The team is getting old and washed up. They have the pitching in the minors to have a great staff in the future. And there are some good young Position players that will be in the market. Like a Mark Teixeira. superciuc
What in the blue hell are you saying? We can replace him and yes, he said i don't know but he said that he feels great in New York and he's proud of wearing the Yankees uniform day in and day out. Kccitystar
I never knew the words "I Don't Know", which means the future is not yet set in stone, actually means "No". Nice try.

el_jefe061
I think the idea of A-Rod getting $28 Million+ from some team is ridiculous. He may be worth that, but no team is going to pay that. If you think about that too, it's not that much more money for A-Rod. If he opts out of New York, it's because of New York, not necessarily for money. meteamo
It would be nice to see him finish his career as a Yankee and have a shot to break Barry's homerun record(s) in pinstripes. But, to repeat what others said here, you can't tell whether or not Alex will be back based upon what he said. I found what Barry said during the derby to be more amusing. But, my money is that Alex will be back ... hopefully for another 10 years or so.
thespungo
...We can replace him... Really? So Mr. Confident thinks it's possible to just up and replace the best player in the game today? Your incredulous optimism could be put to use in the Royals organization...

Your incredulous optimism could be put to use in the Royals organization... You are aware that what he's saying is that he can be replaced with someone else at 3B, just not at the superstar quality that A-Rod is capable of playing... thespungo
You are aware that what he's saying is that he can be replaced with someone else at 3B, just not at the superstar quality that A-Rod is capable of playing... All he typed was "we can replace him," so I'm going to assume that he meant just what he wrote -- that he thinks of the best player in the game is replaceable. And that, to me, is just very funny. Sure you can plop someone else at third, but will he really replace Alex Rodriguez?
northpaw
if arod said no he would be in trouble with the team, if he said yes hed be held to that or called a liar. I dont know is a safe choice

And that, to me, is just very funny. Sure you can plop someone else at third, but will he really replace Alex Rodriguez? The question is, can the Yankees, with the $16m that would be freed up from Rodriguez, the $18m from Clemens, and the $10m freed up from Abreu, can the Yankees match the aggregate production with a new 3B, #3 starter, RF and 1B? Considering the Yankees are getting mediocre production from RF (4.5 WARP3) and next to no production from 1B, Even Rodriguez's 12.7 WARP3 becomes replaceable. Not that it matters, since he's staying a Yankee. Just don't be surprised if he manages to squeeze some more money out of them along the way, as there's no doubt that he's just a mercenary. Is it illegal for the Rangers to offer him an $8m lump sum for him to get out of the Yankees contract?
thespungo
Well you'd never see a Royals fan say A-Rod was replaceable if he played for Kansas City. You could never fill the void in my heart if Royals A-Rod was traded to the Oakland A's in a three-way deal that landed Neifi Perez...
RaptorQuiz
Why can't A-Rod sneeze in NY without everyone analyzing every little piece of snot that shoots out? This is rediculous. Let it go, people. A-Rod is a Yankee. He will almost certainly remain a Yankee. Not every little comment a person makes should be newsworthy.
DoubleD
A-Rod will opt of his contract and come home back to Miami, accepting next to nothing for the ability to play in his home town.

Hory
Order of events forthcoming... A: ARod opts out of contract. B: He gets new, 10 year deal from Yankees for 80 quadrillion dollars. Yea, but if he opts out and signs a new contract with the Yankees, they will have to pay all of his salary whereas the Rangers are currently paying a decent amount of his remaining contract. If someone as mediocre as JD Drew can opt out and get crazy money from a big-spending team, then why wouldn't a good player like A-Rod do the same thing after this season. Boston need a decent shortstop too.

SwinginSoriano
The Yankees better not let him opt out but rather extend him so they can keep Tom Hicks paying up for the next three years.

15Beltran
I don't blame him at all. Ever since he's been here in NY, Yankee fans have been killing him. Now you finally see what he's capable of and now you all fear he's gonna step. Good for you A Rod, go play where your appreciated and not humiliated by booing fans and the unforgiving media that thrived on crucifying you daily. You should have been a Met in the first place. Met fans would not have been so hard on such a great player and his transition to NY would have been easier. Yea Met fans gave it to Piazza and Beltran for a bit, but it eased after a while, unlike the torture A Rod was put through. Go to Lou and play for the Cubbies A Rod, those fans will appreciate what they have with ya, unlike the spoiled Yankee fans.

Yeah now you want A-Rod, even though half of the Met fans say Wright is better, and if you put him at SS, where does Hustle Reyes fit into that? The Cubs already spent enough money this offseason thinking they were gonna win it, I was hoping they would have done better, but they aren't gonna toss another hundred million dollars or so at A-Rod after last offseason. Even if A-Rod is worth the money, like it was said before, no one can match it besides the Yankees. Just because bandwagon Yankee fans and the media don't like A-Rod doesn't mean the real Yankee fans don't like A-Rod. Ignorant people.
