RussFeathers
That's right. Big Papi did. its funny because i couldnt agree more. I was so mad when A-rod won the award, and I think it was absolute garbage that he couldnt win because hes a DH. Some of the voters are idiots. Just like when Palmeiro won the gold glove over Tino one year when he played the MAJORITY of his games at DH. BUt like everyone im very interested to see this A-Rod thing unfold. If he does leave it might benefit the yankees considering A-rod's past team leaving history.

I know it's baseball and stats are one of the hallmarks, but who knows? They could use the 18 million they pay him to go after anything resembling a capable third baseman and use the rest towards pitching. The lineup would take a hit definitely, but pitching wins championships.

Yankee4Life
Hope you Yankee fans like Miguel Cabrera. It's amazing to me sometimes with people in here. There's been some pretty good intelligent comments on A-Rod staying in New York or leaving it after the season is done. And then you come along with something stupid to add in the discussion. I suggest you just stick to downloading.

D-Unit
LMAO Y4L that's a top notch line to remember. lol How would A-Rod want out of NY with the best season of his career in his grasp right now? He's hitting 20 points higher on his batting average, and only 5 HR and 35 RBI from last year's totals. Basically, one more "A-Rod" month. He admitted he is finally comfortable in NY, he's gonna stay cause the Yankees are the only team who could offer him the contract he can't refuse and he will finally stick with a team. I still stand by A-Rod being the MVP in 2005, spending 10 minutes a game on the field does not qualify you for being the MVP. I wouldn't vote Giambi for MVP if he had a great season as a DH (And that's partially cause I hate him )
Kelvarr
If he wants a chance at rings, with a lot of good, young talent that will be around for a while, he needs to come to Detroit. We won't hate on him here.
15Beltran
el_jefe061 & The Fallen Pheonix - Finally, voices of reason. I won't pretend that as a Met fan, that I don't enjoy this years Yankee misery. Yes the Mets are the stepchild of NYC who can win the ciity over every now and then and yes I guess you can say there is a little envy in every Met fans voice for the Yankee history. But my comments earlier in this thread were made as a pure baseball fan, not as Yankee hater. I'm 39 year old NY'r and an AVID sports fan and cannot remember the last time a player was crucified as much as A Rod has been since he first came to NY. If I were in his shoes, after the way I was treated by the fans, certain teammates ( Jeter, uhhemm ) I would look to play elsewhere. If it took the fans this many years to finally accept A Rod in a small way, then he sould show the same respect to the fans that they showed to him and cash in somewhere else where he can concentrate on baseball and not all the sideshow stuff. Then the fans will know what they had in A Rod. Let us not forget, A Rod was not the only player on the Yanks that did not perform in the playoffs the last few years. But since he's the Yankee whipping boy, he takes all the heat. Whether he stays or leaves means nothing to me.
D-Unit
I'm sorry 15Beltran, this has nothing to do with disagreeing with you or being a Yankee fan, but I let out a laugh when I saw that your wallpaper sized sig was removed due to violating the rules. lol

So what if he doesn't play the field? He could easily go to 1st, put up similar numbers, play terrible defense, and win just because he was a position player. Not only did he put up some ridiculous numbers, the amount of clutch hits he had was worth noting as well. I don't remember what his game tying or game winning hits were in 05, but it was far and away better than anything A-Rod did. Big Papi was the most valuable player to his team. Without him, the Sox don't even make the playoffs. A-Rod was just another slugger in a stacked lineup, and odds are the Yanks still would have made the playoffs with someone else playing 3rd. Why have the DH if you're not going to be considered for MVP?

Giambi should have been a DH, but he was at 1st, playing terrible defense. It should also be noted he won the award over a DH, Frank Thomas, whose numbers were just as good. So hurting your team by playing bad defense qualifies you to be MVP? He admitted he is finally comfortable in NY, he's gonna stay cause the Yankees are the only team who could offer him the contract he can't refuse and he will finally stick with a team. Ever thought he's playing so well because he's playing for a contract? Adrian Beltre anyone?

Why have the DH if you're not going to be considered for MVP? It's lightyears away from being the dumbest thing ever said. The dumbest thing I've ever heard was Manny Ramirez telling A-Rod he wished that he was traded to Boston so they could play together, not knowing Manny was the one who would have been traded for A-Rod. And it's not dumb because it's true. I know he can't be worse than Giambi, hell he might be a solid 1B. Sticking him to DH full time makes him a one dimensional player. Game tying hits is like one stat that Ortiz had on A-Rod. Plus, A-Rod got some heavy consideration for a Gold Glove that year at third base. The dumbest thing I've ever heard was Manny Ramirez telling A-Rod he wished that he was traded to Boston so they could play together, not knowing Manny was the one who would have been traded for A-Rod. he does make a good point here. but let's say this, if big papi did play 1b that year. does that really change the fact that he's a one dimensional player? i say not...that being so, why should that disqualify him from being the mvp. he was by far most valuable to his team that year. if we're gonna give the mvp to the best player each year, then no one should ever win it besides a-rod. which just makes the whole award obsolete. Sure, it's one dimensional, but that dimension easily outweighed A-Rod's season. It's not the numbers, it's the numbers in close games. Without Big Papi's clutch hitting, and yes clutch hitting is real, the Red Sox don't make the playoffs. If the Yankees didn't have A-Rod, they wouldn't have been as good, but they don't finish in 3rd place. If Big Papi were a guy who just put up big numbers, not necessarily coming up in a big spot, I'd say A-Rod deserved that MVP. In 2005, Big Papi put an average team on his back and took them to the playoffs. He carried the Sox to the playoffs, you can't say the same for A-Rod. MVP voting should not be a black and white thing.

SESbb30
okay peeps, how can anybody replace A-Rod. Give me a list of canidates, he's well on his way to being the best ever, how can you replace that? I pray to god he doesnt leave. but he'll prolly want a 300 million dollar contract, and if he wants that, he can go play with himself.
