philliesphan18
I saw you changed Chaparro's face to Beltran. Could you change mine to Scott Spezio? rambo
Late inning struggles plague Rays. The Rays carried a 3-1 lead into the 6th inning, but the Twins rallied to defeat them 8-4 in game 2 of a 3-game set at Tropicana Field. The Rays got off to another good start, with Andrew Wright's single plating a run in the 2nd. The Twins tied it at one on a Jason Bartlett homer, but the Rays responded with 2 in the 3rd on the back off Michael Haylock's leadoff triple, Lambda Zeta hitting a triple of his own., and then Mickey Stedfunk grounding out to score Zeta. Drogalis struggled in his return from a dislocated finger, giving up a 3-run homer to Michael Cuddyer in the 6th, and Cirillo's solo shot in the seventh ultimately resulted in his removal from the ballgame. The bullpen did not fare much better, with Michael Cuddyer hitting an RBI single off Michael Johnson in the 8th to extend the lead. Scott Moore went back to old habits, allowing 2 to score on Luis Castillo's RBI triple and Nick Punto's RBI single. Andrew Wright hit a solo homer off Pat Neshek with 2 out in the 9th, but the Rays were unable to rally any further. Lucas
Lucas Williams finally got the run support he was after, and the Rays dominated in a 6-2 victory over the Twins at Tropicana Field. After a perfect top of the first by Williams, leadoff catalyst Michael Haylock got the bottom of the inning started the right way, with a double to center. Just as it looked as though the Rays would leave him on, Johnluke Chaparro hit a 2-out, 2-run shot to left for a 2-0 lead. Chaparro would leave the game later, and an MRI revealed a PCL sprain which will sideline him for up to 2 weeks. Michael Sandoval added to the lead with a solo shot in the 2nd. Dave Pudge hit solo shots in the 4th and 7th innings for his first multi-homer game and a 5-0 Rays lead. Williams pitched extremely well, throwing 7 and 2/3 innings of shutout ball, allowing just 5 hits. The Rays scored again in the 8th via Chris Kelvarr's RBI double and the lead was 6-0. With one out in the 9th, Ben DeCoste was called on to shut it down, but instead loaded the bases, and lefty specialist Jai Waddell surrendered a 2-run single to bloat DeCoste's ERA to 2.19. Michael Johnson came in for the final out. W: Williams (1-2) L: Ortiz (1-1) WOOHOO. A win, and run support.
rambo
Rays bats silenced by Ponson, Twins Nick Punto's solo homer in the 6th was the difference as the Twins defeated the Rays 1-0 in a pitchers duel. Zac Neal was a tough luck loser with the Rays mustering only 3 hits to back his stellar performance in which he allowed only one run on 4 hits over 8 innings lowering his ERA from 1.91 to 1.77. The Rays hits were supplied by Michael Haylock, and Lambda Zeta who had 2. Sidney Ponson was very effective notching his 2nd win. The Rays had a one-out baserunner in the 9th, but Michael Sandoval soon put any hopes of a Rays rally to bed by grounding into a double-play. rambo
Blanton belted in slugfest The Rays got stuck into Joe Blanton from the word go as they tagged him for 6 runs in 3.1 innings as the Rays defeated the A's 9-0. Ronnie Reyes hit a 3-run HR in the first to get the Rays started the right way. Another run came over with HFLR scoring on an error by Bobby Crosby in the 2nd. Lambda Zeta and Michael Sandoval plated runs in the 4th to chase Blanton. The scoreboard operator was quiet again until the 7th with Chad Gaudin serving up a 2-run HR to Wright and a solo shot to Michael Haylock. Jason Blizzard pitched exceptionally, shutting out the A's on 6 hits in 8 innings. The Rays went with the percentages in the 9th with Brendan Lago, Ben DeCoste and Frank Duffy each pitching 1/3 of an inning. rambo
Rays erase early deficit but A's prevail. The Rays rallied to erase an early 2-run deficit but were unable to hang on as they were defeated by the Rays 3-2. Adam Pridham hung in there after allowing a 2-run HR to Jason Kendall in the 3rd. The Rays proceeded to rally with HFLR hitting his first longball of the year in the bottom half of the inning and Ronnie Reyes adding an RBI double in the 4th. He lost the game however when he allowed a HR to Eric Chavez in the 7th to break the tie. rambo
Huss' Walk-Off Blast sends Rays away happy in finale. Tim Huss hit a walk-off shot to left-field off of Huston Street in the 10th inning as the Rays defeated Oakland 2-1. Huss' shot came on the 3rd pitch of the AB and Street's 15th off the game. The dramatics were made possible in the bottom of the 9th by Lambda Zeta, who doubled to lead off the inning. Mickey Stedfunk followed with a long fly-out to advance the runner to third, and HFLR hit an infield single to plate the tying run and hand Street his 2nd blown save of the year. Oakland were put on top by Mike Piazza, who doubled home Milton Bradley in the top of the 9th. Both starters pitched extremely effectively, with Kennedy allowing 1 run on 5 hits over 8+ innings and Lucas Williams allowing no runs on 4 hits in 8 and 1/3. Scott Moore was let off the hook after he allowed the go-ahead run. rambo
Series Preview Rays (17-15) @ Orioles (11-22) Matchups: Game 1: M Drogalis (3-2, 2.46) vs A Loewen (0-5, 9.45) Game 2: Z Neal (3-3, 1.77) vs S Trachsel (2-4, 3.55) Game 3: J Blizzard (1-2, 7.29) vs E Bedard (1-4, 4.21) The Rays start a six game road trip with a 3-game set against the Orioles at Camden Yards, before heading north of the border to face the Jays. The hitters should light up the O's pitching which has been a weakness for Baltimore and ultimately shows why they are in last place. The Rays counter with their best 3 on the staff, which is surprisingly the back-end of the rotation. Zac Neal and Mike Drogalis impressed many in April and Jason Blizzard has just begun to turn it on in his last few starts. PLAYERS TO WATCH: Rays Hitters- The offense is the key for the Rays this series, and if they score they should walk away with the sweep.
rambo
Rays rally to back Drogalis, get the win against Orioles. A late rally by the Rays drove Mike Drogalis to his 4th win of 2007 as the Rays scored 2 runs in the final 2 innings to beat the O's 2-1. Lambda Zeta was again a catalyst in the rally, with his 1-out triple leading to the tying run in the 8th. Ronnie Reyes made sure the game wasn't tied for long, hitting a solo homer to right-center off of closer Chris Ray to give the Rays the 2-1 lead they would not relinquish. Mike Drogalis pitched the best game by a Rays pitcher so far this year, allowing just 2 hits, one of which was a solo homer to Jay Payton in the 5th, over 8 innings. Mike Philsphan, appearing in his first game after a long stint without a save opportunity, made the most of the opportunity pitching a perfect ninth for his 7th save.
