Game 2 Preview: D-Rays (0-1) @ Yankees (1-0)

A Yankee favourite returns to the Bronx today to take on the D-Rays in the 2nd game of a 3 game set. I'm talking about Andy Pettitte, the tall left hander with a great pickoff move has been apart of many Yankees postseason runs.

He will oppose D-Rays pitcher Lucas Williams who is making his first start of 2007.

D-Rays Player to Watch

Johnluke Chaparro, 2-4 in the opener and hits lefties well.

Oh No: After bringing the lumber, bullpen loses the game.

The D-Rays got off to a flying start against the Yankees' Andy Pettitte today at the stadium. Haylock reached with a walk, Lambda Zeta continued his good hitting with a single and then Mickey Stedfunk drilled the first pitch he saw into the right-center field bleachers to give Tampa a 3-0 lead.

This lead didn't last long as Derek Jeter continued to wield the power wand, swatting a solo shot to right to make it 3-1.

The D-Rays continued to hit Pettitte, an RBI infield single to Johnluke Chaparro made it 4-2 and at that point Pettitte left the game with an injury.

Sean Henn was greeted with a friendly "How do you do?" solo shot by Chris Kelvarr to make it 5-2.

Lucas Williams pitched brilliantly, 6 and 2/3 innings giving up just 3 runs. A quick final out in the 7th by Michael Johnson made sure that it stayed that way.

The 8th saw setup man Scott Moore give up back-to-back HR's to Abreu and A-Rod which tied the game at 5. An angry manager removed Moore and replaced him with left-hander Brendan Lago. Lago struck-out Giambi but a wild pitch allowed him to reach at first. Matsui followed with a single. Posada's groundout advanced the runners and a Sac Fly by Cano scored Pinch runner Melky Cabrera to give the Yankees the lead. With 2 outs, Doug Mientkiewicz homered to give the Yankees an 8-5 cushion which they would not relinquish. Rivera pitched a 1-2-3 9th for his 1st save.

W: Henn (1-0) L: Lago (0-1) S: Rivera(1)

Notable D-Rays Performances:

Stedfunk: 1-2, HR, 3 RBIs, 2 BBs

Kelvarr: 1-4, HR

Zeta: 2-4

Chaparro: 2-4, RBI

Game 3 Preview: Devil Rays (0-2) @ Yankees (2-0)

The Devil Rays look to avoid the sweep this evening at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees will send veteran right-hander Mike Mussina to the mound. He will be opposed by another Mike, Mike Drogalis.

Drogalis, a lefty with a 4 seamer, 2 seamer, Cutter and a Circle Change will look to bring home the first win for the D-Rays in 2007.

D-Rays Player to Watch:

Lambda Zeta- 4-8 this series.

Pitchers Duel won by Mussina.

A pitchers duel was on at the stadium from the word go, as Drogalis and Mussina traded zeroes for 4 innings until A-Rod just got one out over the glove of Polites. However the D-Rays responded right away with a solo homerun to Johnluke Chaparro to tie the game at 1.

The zeroes continued until Jeter split the tie with another HR to give New York a 2-1 lead, then the floodgates opened. 2 more runs were scored in the 7th and 8th, One off Drogalis and one off Jai Waddell. The hitters could not tie it up for Drogalis, who pitched well, as Mariano Rivera closed it out in the 9th for the save. The Yankees picked up the win 4-1.
