So glad. DP has been making himself part of the story for too long. Now if Stu Scott would leave. All I ask is for them to bring me the sports news, but Sportscenter and ESPN radio are now entertainment avenues and not news sources. I want a revolution I want my ESPN back.

I acutally disagree, I felt like Patrick was the only one that was an actual anchor. Although, I completely agree about Stu Scott, and the majority of the other guys on Sportscenter.

ESPN is complete garbage now. The sad thing is, no matter how good the internet may be, there's no alternative on basic cable TV. Yeah, there's FSN, but their programming really isn't that good. Damn you ESPN.

i guess some of us just don't think that's a good thing...anyhow, any rumors on to why he's leaving?

Maybe he's just retiring, how long has he been with ESPN? like 17 years I think or maybe he's going to MSNBC...lol

Departure from ESPN/ABC/ESPN Radio

On July 9,2007, Patrick on his radio show announced his departure from ESPN/ABC effective August 17, 2007, stating, "I am leaving ESPN August 17th to go out on my own and be a free agent." "I think I was starting to take it (ESPN) for granted," Patrick says. He says ESPN tried to talk him out of it. If there were any animosity, he says, "I wouldn't be sticking around until August."

ESPN's statement released to the media said that Patrick would be released from his contract August 31, 2007 exactly 1 year early from his deal that was to run until August 31, 2008. The statement also said this would be the final comment on Patrick's situation from ESPN. "ESPN contractually bans all employees from making specific announcements of their futures on their airways, but out of respect to Dan and all he's done for ESPN we allowed him an opportunity to end the speculation".

Reaction to Patrick's Departure

Reaction from media sources hit the world wide web by storm. Many webpages, blogs, news media outlets, and even here at Wikipedia have speculated on the reasons for Patrick's departure and possible future. On July 10, 2007's The Dan Patrick Show, Keith Olbermann and Dan Patrick himself put some of the rumors and comments to rest.

* Patrick stated that he was not leaving ESPN to take the hosting duties at The Price is Right.

* Patrick stated that he is not leaving ESPN to run off and get married to former adult film star, Jenna Jameson. Stating that, "the people who post that should go ask her boyfriend, ex-Ultimate Fighting Champion Tito Ortiz if that rumor is true."

* Patrick made clear that he was not married to ESPN personality Linda Cohn.

* Patrick admitted that he was hurt when good friend, Sports Illustrated writer Rick Reilly wrote that, "Patrick was making one of the top 5 biggest carrer mistakes in Entertainment history." Ranking right under Shelly Long leaving Cheers and Katie Couric leaving NBC.

* Keith Olbermann stated that it was only a matter of time before a website claimed that he was fired from ESPN like they claim he (Keith Olbermann) was, even though Olbermann wasn't. Patrick again stated he was leaving on good terms with ESPN and that he could return to ESPN if he would so choose to do so.

* Patrick said that he wants to be on both Television and Radio again that some newspapers were reporting he only wanted to do radio.

* Patrick stated that he has not made any decision on what he will do in the future but hopes to start the process soon.

I said he brings the good hip hop music to sportcenter when ever they play hip hop music.

Uh... how do you know Stu Scott is behind all the hip hop music SportCenter plays?

I'm on the road a lot and have been listening to ESPN radio for a long time. "The Dan Patrick Show" is probably the worst one out them all. He is completely full of himself and does a poor job at trying to play it off. Last I heard, he was a finalist to take over for Bob Barker on the Price Is Right. How funny is that?.

Like someone else said, Patrick involves himself far too much for my taste and strays as far from sport as he possible can. For instance... ANY time he has a movie star on, he tries to press the person into getting him/her in their next movie. Half the time the movie star doesn't know if he's kidding or not. Just today he interviewed Adam Sandler about his new movie and talked 90% on how Sandler is going to get him in his next project. How riveting for a sports fan. Sheesh.

And while I'm venting on Patrick... I CANNOT stand how he continually, daily asks himself questions on air while trying to play a sort of devils advocate and debate with himself.

'Would I take the money.. yes. Would I turn down the next job... no.'

So completely annoying. Good riddence and hope the next guy turns out as well as Colin Cowherd has when he replaced Tony Kornheiser.. A big flop thus far is how the Sports Bash went downhill since Erik Kuselias left for NASCAR.

Curious who ESPN is lining up...

Hes the only one in almost everyshow that randomly throws up a hip hop reference.

You do realize there's people that work at ESPN that aren't anchors?

They probably have a whole department to deal with the music and anchors likely have nothing to do with it.

But that's un-possible! Stuart Scott is black, therefore he must be responsible for any and all hip hop references that take place on Sportscenter... there's just no other explanation!
