willyvonka
So I've been playing MVP for a while now and have lots of experience with the game. I've moved up to the MVP difficulty setting for my dynasty and have been playing on that for more than a year now. Everyone is great, but the one thing that is unrealistic/frustrating for me is the fact that my team batting avg. consistently has stayed around the .210-.230 range even though the run production is high (lots of home runs). The question I have is (especially for those playing on MVP setting); what batting techniques do you guys use that gives a consistent overall BA? I usually pre-load in a certain direction for the first two strikes and then one 2-strike counts swing without pointing anywhere. For lefties I always pre-load up and in and for righties it varies depending on how fast the opposing pitcher throws.
seanzarelli
I usually take the 1st and 2nd pitches to see where and how the pitcher is throwing, and then take different approaches on what the count is after those 2 pitches. 0-2: I tend to be free and just try and make contact, usually trying to go opposite field. 1-1: If I feel the pitcher might come in on me I will pre-load to try and pull the ball but if I see the ball hovering towards the middle to outside of the plate I shift the stick fast to make solid contact. 2-0: I either try to hit opposite field or take another pitch. If after taking the pitch results in a strike, I follow the 1-1 count. As a team, I'm usually around the .270-.300 range for a team overall. willyvonka
What setting/sliders do you play on?
seanzarelli
Right now, Kumala's Final Datafile on MVP with my own sliders in batting view #5. Some games I only manage 2 or 3 hits, other games I manage 10-11 hits. All depends on how well I'm reading the pitcher. Also I have all aids off except for the strike zone box. 59FIFTY
If you want a SUPER high AVG, get a player that is pretty fast and is a good bunter, and bunt every time. Jose Reyes had a 860+ AVG, at the all star break.(i play on pro i don't like to lose:P)
kazmatsui10
do you guys draw good at bats? like in real life?...like fouling pitch after pitch to get "your" pitch?
All_Star
do you guys draw good at bats? like in real life?...like fouling pitch after pitch to get "your" pitch? I do, say I'm batting with Tory Glaus who I pre load on every pitch no matter the count to hit a home run, somehow I just keep timing it right and manage to foul off pitchers on the outside corner until I can get one I can drive inside. You kinda just have to get a feel for it. You also have to know your hitter's strengths and weaknesses.
bmoney1045
From my experience, the most sure fire way to have a good team BA is to point the stick to the vicinity of the pitch. Preloading works for a time, but you tend to get more hits if you point.
uspdude
Couple months ago, I'm having the same problem like you (8 out of 9 are batting less than .250) and now my guys are getting pretty realistic result (most of them are between .270 to .340) You just have to be patient when facing MVP level CPU pitchers, they thow a lot of ball near the strike zone, makes it really hard to get a hit. don't swing at the first pitch (i know it's hard not to), make sure you watch plenty of pitches, so you can get your timing right. kazmatsui10
well....if you're playing MVP..then definitely PRE-LOAD...cause you will DIE if you load - late... you can try switching back to pro and try loading-late instead...pretty much evens out the playing field
All_Star
Other than preloading I just try to not load at all and just make's contact, but I've had mixed success doing this.......
jai13
i play on MVP and never pre-load and just watch the pitch and load and swing, so i either must have amazing reactions or be lucky but my team avg is norm around .
kazmatsui10
wow...you guys are pro...but there's ONE SERIOUS FLAW in this game this game unlike other baseball games that i play does not appropriately put the ratings of the players into use...thus the ratings are just useless FOR EXAMPLE, in other games players with like, say, power less than 40 cannot even get the ball past the infield IN MVP 05, home runs can be hit by ANYONE...that's why, it's not very realsitic to see players like eckstein or juan piere hit 20 hrs a season... AND one other thing that i noticed...i don't know if it's just me or i'm weird..O-o ...but let's say: it's top of the ninth and i'm down 7-4 with bases juiced....and someone steps up...( let's say omar vizquel) and he's 0-4 for the day....NOW in other games...i would get that sick feeling that vizquel won't do anything since he's HITLESS FOR THE DAY... HOWEVER, in mvp 05 almost anyone can DO ANYTHING...so it just doesn't feel very realistic...(i lost you huh ? -___-) *like let's say someone is 3-4 in the game....wouldn't it be NORMAL for anyone to think that that batter would get another hit in the clutch??? well, in MVP....i can't REALLY feel that late inning pressure... but i gotta live with it...-___-

Also, about the Eckstein with 20 HRs, what are the numbers your power guys are putting up? You might want to adjust your sliders.
HardcoreLegend
What the hell is preloading and why don't I know about it? You mean you all don't move the left stick in the direction of the ball (push it away to opposite field, pull it to pull the ball) as you swing? kazmatsui10
http://www.mvpmods.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=31060.html << defintions of preloading there.... well...i'm just pointing out that late-loading gives some people a little bit more challenge back to the clutch issue....well, i may have eckstein hitting 20 hrs...and pujols a few more....not much of a difference the ratings don't come into play...so it doesnt' matter if i have my number 3 guy or my number 9 guy up there... uspdude
Yes, rating do make a difference in the game. my number 3, 4, 5 batters do hit more homerun and higher avg than other batters. however, in MVP 2005 its more about timing than rating. In my view, the game is about 30% rating and 70% timing.
kazmatsui10
it's just me then...i mean i just DON"T FEEL "IT" when the game is on the line and my number 3 batter is up...it's missing the intensity and to add to it all..the curses 2 second interval between pitches...
