Pitching Meter in datafile

Ok so where should I put KUMALA's Datafile then in order to use it? I don't care about changing the datafile, I just want to use that one and I'll just adjust my sliders dude. Can you help me out there? Is the file supposed to go to the folder with Datafile.big or where should I extract it so that it can work on the game?

Datafile.txt files go....

C:Program FilesEA SPORTSMVP Baseball 2005data

So basically extract datafile.exe to data folder in mvp05. Just that right? Then I should adjust the sliders according to umm say Hoop27's or w/e. I don't have to restart my season for the changes to take effect now do I?

There is no datafile.exe file. It doesn't exist! You would need to extract the datafile.txt to the data folder.

But the problem is the DFCOMPUTIL.EXE. When I extracted it to the Data folder, it would not work because it looked for MVP Baseball 2004. I created another folder MVP Baseball 2004 and created another folder Data placed inside it and put in the gfxpak and datafile.txt and it worked.

Note: The MVP Baseball 2004 folder I created was placed next to the MVP Baseball 2005 folder.

That's because you used the wrong version. Instead of using this file, you should have used this file. Then it would have worked fine in the MVP Baseball 2005/data folder.

Well, that's because I followed the link provided by redsox on page one:

Well, doing a search on DFComutil comes up with nothing, so I used the link from redsox.

Yeah I meant datafile.txt not .exe lol. That's my fault. So yeah I placed it in the data folder and hopefully this will take effect in my season. As for the compression utility, well if I can't get the meter fixed where it would help me pitch, like adding some +s on the meter, well I guess then I'll be trying to use that Compression Utility or w/e it's called. Thanks for all the help guys. I'm hoping that this works. :D

Well this was the strangest game I've had in a long long time. It went to like 15 innings. I think that the datafile did kick in because the pitching meter has changed. It looks different now and I've done pretty well. I lost the game 1-0 but it was really boring. There were nothing but ground balls and fly balls all game. A few strikeouts here and there as well. I don't get what the deal is. I had like 8 hits in the game but couldn't get anything going. They had a double play like 3 times which ended my chance of scoring from 3rd. How can I improve my hitting? Should I aim the stick up and away depending on the hitter (lefty or righty)? Ohh and there were only 2 deep fly balls if I can remember correctly, both by the CPU. I've added some power to both me and the cpu but no change.

I understand. I apologize if it came out sounding like an accusation. Re-reading it I can see why it may have sounded that way but that was definitely not my intention. I was trying to help. Anyway, I am glad that you found the correct file.

The file you downloaded & installed is a simulation type of file. It is meant to be more realistic. Of course as all new things, it takes getting used to. However I think that overall you will find it an enjoyable experience. You're gonna have lower scoring games because it's not basketball. That is what baseball is. You will find that not always will it be 1-0. But you're also not going to get alot of 10-9 scores. That's the whole point of modifying the datafile in the first place. Also, it will depend on the individual team you're playing against & it's pitching & hitting prowess.

Great post Shmooz, beat me to it. I have Kumala's latest datafile and I love it. If someone is looking for a hit-fest every game with 5 homeruns... this is not the datafile for them. This is the datafile I use for my Cubs dynasty, and every game is different. I've had offensive barn-burners and some awesome pitchers duels.

You've got to be smart at the plate as well. Just because one of your big sluggers is up, don't think that you can swing at anything and jack it out of the park. Not going to happen. And you will it deep fly balls that you think are going out, only to have them die at the base of the wall. This is an example of some of the things that Kumala wanted in his datafile. Also the variety of hits is just amazing. Learn how to use the stick to pull a pitch or go the opposite way with it.

Just my 2 cents. :twocents:

Honestly I love the datafile and I'm using Hoop's allstar sliders, but this is outrageous. I mean seriously, in the last 3 games I have like 1 run, with a very small number of hits. I even bumped up the contact for me. Now there's an upside to the game however. The CPU is hitting good, I would say realistic. the get their share of hits and runs. Like the last game which i ended up quitting because i was really pissed off, Marlins had so far 9 hits and 4 runs through like 6 innings. My pitcher, Jason Jennings did get tired and it showed quickly. I do mess with the stamina sliders so I'll bump it i guess to help me out. Ohh and another thing, NO HOME RUNS, i mean seriously, I've had pitches right there down the middle almost to my big bats, no home runs. While I like the challenge of the datafile, it's great, but I'm so frustrated with not being able to produce any runs. I'm on a 5 game losing streak as well with very few runs scored. I'm a balanced type of guy, meaning I like good pitching and offense. So far, I'm only getting ok pitching and, horrible offense. Any advice when it comes to hitting. If a batter is lefthanded, should I pull it left or right? Things of that nature. Help is greatly appreciated and sorry for the long post. I'm just so frusturated with it because, well, I haven't even been able to beat up on the sh***y pitchers :( Ohh i almost forgot. How the heck do I hit Breaking Balls. they give me headaches. :headache:

Ok, this just got worse. I think I'm the self-proclaimed worst hitter in a baseball video game. I need help with this crap. I'm sick and tired of losing like this. I have the batting contact up to 25 and hitting power to like 15, all I've done in my last 4 games is score 3 runs, 3 ****ing runs. If anyone can advise me in a certain way, plz do so, otherwise I think I'll go back to playing madden or something.

Man this is hopeless. :( I'm really hoping to get some good advice here, I mean I know what people would say, like be patient and stuff. I know that, but still, this is really horrible. It seems like whenever I do have a chance to score, boom double play and there goes my chance. Should I aim the ball more a certain way with the analog stick or should i just hit the button? Help is appreciated. :S

Definitely aim the ball. Go with the pitches. Don't try to pull a pitch that from the middle of the plate outward. etc... Don't go for the long ball unless you really need it. Bunt with your speedsters who know how. Steal a base. Play small ball as well as go for the timely long ball.

Easier said then done my friend. i've tried bunting with everrett and burke but to no avail. They seem to miss the bunt when i press the button to hit and run. As for aiming, well I don't always aim at the ball. I usually just press the button to hit the ball. My problem is the changup, slider, and curve ball. i seem to be absolutely horrible at hitting those. I just need some discipline i guess and good timing, but so far i haven't had either one because, well if say it's a 2-2 count, I strike out most of the time. When should I pull the Stick upward? I guess if i want to hit it deep, or up then that's what i should do right?

Practice makes perfect. Rememeber, it's almost like learning the game all over again. The good thing is, it makes the game new all over again. Yes, you pull the stick upward when you go for the long ball. Remember though, if you don't connect properly all it will usually be is a high popup easily caught. Hence you have to calculate when it's worth it to go for it. Just like real baseball, eh?

Yeah you are right dude, it is like learning it over again because well I'm so used to playing on pro so now it's like a big step up. What's a good way of reading pitches. I've really had a hard time doing this. That's why i swing at some many throws like an idiot. I was getting smothered by a pitcher for the Marlins who I never even heard of, Olson's his name. He has like 5.5 era with average of over .300 that he gives up. I couldn't do **** so far when I tried playing. The game froze and it closed out however. It's talking about mvp2005.exe has encountered a problem and it needs to close. I don't know why it's doing that again. I think I have the right stuff installed in there. I'm using UR 8.4 Plus edition in there.

I have hit home runs with bat pointed down, straight across, normal (no direction), as well as upper left, upper right and upper middle.

I use KSM's 2007 datafile and have had close games and wipe outs. So far this season into May, I had a terrific 16 inning game that I won with a home run, and I've had other extra inning games.

Hitting to me is anticipation and timing. I try to guess where the pitch is going and prepare my swing accordingly. When the opposing pitcher throws fastballs 97 and over, it's all guesswork.

One other thing, the type of batter and type of swing also, I believe, play a role in how to hit.

I use Kumala's latest datafile, and my game experience mirrors yours. My approach to hitting does as well. You have hit the nail on the head when it comes to hitting with these datafiles.

I find myself taking different approaches to hitting depending on who's at bat and the situation (runner's in scoring position, how many outs, etc...)

Some games I break out the lumber mill and other's I can't hit nothing. Have had some great pitching duels in my Dynasty. Ups and Downs just like real baseball. Like you said, depends on who your playing as well.

I don't care how skewed you make the sliders to favor you, a good approach to hitting is a must. You have to go with the pitch, try to hit groundballs sometimes to get the runner over, etc... And you are not going to blast a homerun everytime one of your big bats at the plate. Bottom line as has been said before in this thread: You must have patience at the plate with these datafiles.

If someone is having trouble picking up pitches, the can turn ON the Hitter's Eye. Also can try the mini-batting games.

And when you do guess fastball correctly and connect... that is one good feeling.

Sorry for the ramble. Again, just my 2 :twocents:

You mentioned my favorite aspect of playing the game: pitching duels. I find pitching duels, especially scoreless games like 0-0 into extra innings the most exciting games of all. I just love to win 1-0 :-)

I always have an aspirin ready in case of a heart attack ;-)

I hear ya man. One of my favorite, albeit stressful things is pitching out of bad situations. For me, that's right up there with blasting that clutch homerun.

I know what you mean about stress. I kid you not when I say there are those times I can hear and feel my heart beating boom...boom...BoomBoom, and think I'll end up on a stretcher on my way to the hospital with the Cordless Wingman RumblePad still in my hand!
