Data File Help - How to use it?

Howdy all.

I was going through this site for about an hr or so last night and saw all this talk about better gaming with a modded datafile, so I'm all for it! I have converted to the new 07' mod and the game plays great, but when i check for the datafile.txt it is not there. I only have 'datafile.big'; I'm guessing this is either a different version for the 07'' mod or the file is embedded somehow. Every datafile that i downloaded is has the .txt extension, but I really want to get it to work. (I hate the stock ball physics) So my question is - Can I use the .txt files? if so, how do I install them and where? I'm going to play with this and see if i can get it to work, but i figured I'd post and see if someone can help me out sooner, rather than later :)

And for future reference: Every MOD comes with a README.txt file with installation instructions. Found in the extracted folder.

Welcome to the site and enjoy the mods.

So you just leave the .big file and add the text file? wow, i feel dumb. None of the read me's said that. I should have figured it was simple :)

Thanks guys

I have all kinds of datafiles - any suggestions as to which is the finest on here? :D

thx again - sorry to waste your time on this sad, but easy question

When using the datafiles, just trial/error until you find one that fits your play-style. Read the feedback on each one. Remember also, that sliders play a big part in how the game plays as well.

It really depends on your style of gameplay. You can think of these datafiles as more of guidelines. Everyone plays the game differently and my suggestion would be to find (or create) a set of sliders that go with the datafile of your choosing. Also, if you do find the time, I would recommend you try and mess around with editing the datafile to better suite your needs.

There is a couple of files in the download section that highlight almost every single line that can be found in the datafile. It may look like a lot of things and could be overwhelming but its really not that bad. Once you get a hang of it, you will find that its extremely easy to edit and that you can take the level of gameplay to new heights. Take care.

The datafile.txt file is embedded in the datafile.big file. That's why you didn't see a .txt file with the MVP07 mod. As evil1182 said, you can just put the datafile.txt file in the MVP Baseball data folder and it will override the one embedded in the datafile.big file.

In fact you can do that with any of the files embedded in datafile.big. You can put different versions in the data folder and they will override the embedded versions.

For starters, you would need to download and install the 07 mod (you would not need to have the original game installed). You could then install the models.big update or Big Shmooz's models.big (if you are using a plus version of either KG's or Totte's roster set). After that its just a matter of installing the mods that appeal to you the most - like updated uniforms, cyberfaces that are not in the pack, stadium updates, etc... There are plenty of threads that talk about the 07 mod in general and the steps you need to take in properly installing the mod.

Ok so I installed the 07 Mod, however, I'm having a problem with the pitcher cursor. It looks too small and it makes it hard to pitch. What kind of a datafile can i download to fix this. Where would I be installing it?

A majority of the datafiles in the downloads section have a harder pitching meter than the default 05 one. Majority found the pitching too easy. You can however get a datafile that you like and edit the pitching meter to your liking. Requires going into the datafile, which can be tricky.

*Again, just start trying out datafiles and see what you like. Go to the Downloads section and search "datafile". Will bring up all the datafiles that people have created.

*If you want to edit the pitch meter yourself, here's a great thread tells you exactly what lines need to be changed: http://www.mvpmods.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=29998.html
