He struggled allowing 6 runs in only 4 innings. The Yankees offense was shut down by Adam Loewen. They were only able to squeeze 3 hits in the game. Carl Pavano throws his first pitch since 2005 Jay Gibbons(left),and Corey Patterson(right) both homered in the 4th inning.Patterson homerd twice in the game. In his first start back with the team against the Orioles Pavano suffered an injury to his arm. It was bothering him in the 3rd inning,but still pitched.Then after the game the team announced that the length of his injury is unknown,but it could take up to 2 months,possibly longer. The Yankees went 4-2 in the first 6 games. They have lost 2 straight dporpping the series to the Orioles. The Twins are a much tougher opponent. The Yankees must have thier "A" game working if they want to beat this tough bunch. The 3 projected pitchers for the Yankees are:Andy Pettitte(Game 1),Mike Mussina(Game 2),and Kei Igawa(Game 3). April 9,2007 -- ESPN.com Roger Clemens held a special press conference on Sunday to officialy announce his return to the Yankees. The Rocket has landed.....in the Bronx. Around 2:00pm Sunday at Yankee stadium during the game,the Rocket held a special press conference regarding who he will pitch for this year.The game was entering the middle of the 5th inning,when announcer Bob Sheppard informed the fans to direct thier attention to the jumbo screen. Then entered Roger Clemens with just a smile,and a regular outfit. The fans in the stadium went nuts! About 15 minutes or so into the press conference the Rocket said,"I have some good news..." Clemens would then go under the podium and pull out a hat. It looked to be either a Yankees or Red Sox hat. When he turned around the NY on the cap was clear white,and it was obvious that the Rocket was back in New York. After that the Stadium was shaking by the roar of the crowd. The contract was a reported 1 year 10.0 million dollar deal. The Rocket said he will pitch as soon as possible. Mientkiewicz's single in the 10th wins it for the Yanks April 9,2007 -- YESnetwork.com The Yankees entered the 9th inning down 3-0 to the Twins. A sacrifice fly by Melkey Cabrera would score in a run. The Yankees were down 3-1 with 2 outs,and who else but the captain Derek Jeter coming up. On a 1-2 pitch he killed it over the center field wall. Bobby Abreu would follow with his own solo shot to tie it up at 3. Mariano Rivera would come in the bottom of the 9th,and shut down the bats of the Twins. In the 10th Jorge Posada would get a lead off double. Johnny Damon would pinch run,as Robinson Cano stepped up. Cano grounded out.Then Doug Mientkiewicz would get his 2nd hit of the game,and of the season,and it would be huge as Johnny Damon scored to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead. They had the 9th inning comeback,and GW single in the 10th,and tonight the offense exploded for 7 runs. Derek Jeter,and Bobby Abreu both homered in this one. Unlike last night it was not back to back. Mike Mussina got his 2nd win of the season as he only allowed 1 run over 6 innings pitched. The Yankees look to take out the brooms tomorrow night as they look to sweep the Twins,and head into Oakland on a high note. Kei Igawa will make his 2nd major league start at 7:30pm ET. The Yankees came into Oakland for a 3 game series. The Athletics were 7-3,and the Bombers were looking for thier 4th straight win. Jorge Posada went deep twice,and lead the team to a 9-6 win.
