Phillips Takes Over 1B Spot

April 27,2007 -- Yankees.com

Phillips12.jpgMientkiewicz11.jpg

The Yankees first base shuffle this year is over. They have been trying to decide between Andy Phillips, and Doug Mientkiewicz. Mientkiewicz's batting average is under .100,and has 3 errors. Phillips is batting over .250,with 1 error. Mientkiewicz will now be a bench player, and Phillips will do most of the duties at first base for the Yankees.

Bombers Get Set for May;Torre Weighs In On April

April 30,2007 -- NY Post

The Yankees had an exciting month of April. Posting a 17-8 record, and are a top of the AL East by 1 1/2 games over the Orioles. Captain Derek Jeter lead the team with a .400 batting average, and looks to keep it up in may. The Yankees have the day off,but on May 1st they head to Texas to have a 3 game series against the Rangers. The Yankees will have Chein-Ming Wang,Andy Pettitte, and Mike Mussina going in the 3 games. We had an interview with manager Joe Torre after the Yankees 7-1 win over Boston.

On the Yankees Performance in April

"I feel that we had a very good month in April, but just because we had a good month dosen't mean we're champions. We need to have the same exact approach in May as we did in April, and we hope it's a postive outcome"

On the Pitching Staff

"As a whole our pitching was good. Wang is 4-1,Igawa is 3-0. Roger is 2-1. Moose is 3-1,and Andy is 1-1. We had hoped that Andy would have a better record. Our ERA as a whole team has really been the only problem."

On the Offense

"The offense was incredible. They did everything right. They scored alot of runs, and got alot of hits. They played excellent defense, and got the job done, they should do exactly the same in May"

So there you have it. The Yankees look to do exactly what they did it April, and that is play the game of baseball.
