Logitech Rumblepad w/ MVP07 mod

Hi all, this may sound like a dumb question and I am at work right now so I can't test a few theories, but I'm seeing that in game, when using a Logitech Rumblepad (the corded one), the vibration feature is greyed out but it sais on, while in an actual game it is greyed out and it sais off, now I didn't install the logitech software and am just running it plug and play, is that my problem? I will need to install the logitech software to activate the rumble feature? or is there something else? sorry if this had been asked before, I did search the boards for a similair topic but found nothing that answered my question, thanks in advance.
