I searched and didn't find anything similar, but the search feature sure ain't Google, so if this has been discussed before, ignore it.

NEW YORK — DNA experts have identified the remains of a 42-year-old brokerage executive who died on Sept. 11, 2001, and the medical examiner's office announced the discovery of 35 new human bone fragments in an area near ground zero.

The latest Sept. 11 victim to be identified, Edward Ryan, of Scarsdale, N.Y., was a vice president of Carr Futures with an office on the 92nd floor of the north tower of the World Trade Center.

His remains were found while sifting materials from a ramp once used to get to ground zero, said Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the city's medical examiner. The ramp was dismantled several months ago as construction at the site progresses. from a ramp once used to get to ground zero, said Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the city's medical examiner. The 9/11 victims are gone, forever. What I don't understand is how finding a few bone fragments is going to give "closure" to the victim's families.

"His remains were found while sifting materials from a ramp..." doesn't hearing something like that just make this horrible tragedy even worse than it already was for those families?

If a relative of mine died in a horrible way, I don't see why finding some bone fragments would make me feel better about them being dead, yet some of these families are insistent that the "digging" continues. Why?

I know that this may be another "hot button" issue, but it just makes no sense to me. Dead is dead. What are pieces of bone going to do to heal the pain?

And no, I don't think that it's the same as someone being cremated in a normal way and the ashes being given to the family.

to each his own. the onese grieving should be able to decide this on their own. people tend to want a proper burial for their loved ones...in a sense it's closure for them. in a sense, it's proof that it happened, instead of living your life not knowing 100% for sure.

even if you don't think it'd be for you, it doesn't mean we stop trying for those who would. because someone else will think differently. and to that someone else it could mean night and day. really, it's the least that could be done. not everything surround death makes sense, but for the sakes of those left behind on this earth, we still do things like this.

I didn't say anything about people not being able to decide on their own, I just gave my own thoughts on the matter.

I don't understand how someone wouldn't be 100% sure 7 years later or need any further proof than what was seen.

As for a proper burial, if people think that burying a few pieces of bone is what that is, fine. Like I said, I just don't get it.

It is all about the closure. The reason someone wants the remains, is so they KNOW the person is dead and will NEVER come back. It's why so many of us wish to view the bodies of our dead before we bury them. My dad died, and hard as it was to view him, it helped me to KNOW he was dead and I will never see him again alive. It's all about the closure.

yeah i know, i didn't mean anything by it. you said you didn't get it, which is fine. it's just others will feel different. so i guess it doesn't really matter. some people just need it. there's really nothing to get.

not really. first off, there aren't any decent pics available. second, they're both stock faces, and are pretty good. so i guess i don't know what you're seeing. maybe post some pics, because otherwise i won't be planning on it.

well i'll take a closer look at mantle. at worst, it may just need remodelling. but berra isn't gonna be possible unless there's a really good pic of him. it's an 04 face, so i can't really touch the model. i'd be forced to make a whole new face.
