gordgraff
I just got a new laptop, and I just installed MVP2005. As soon as I intalled it, I tested it to make sure the game was working...which is was perfectly. Then I copied over all the updates and mods that I have thankfully downloaded from MVPMODS over the years from my old HD to my new one. I also copied over my saved user data and dynasty. Then, as I tried to play my dynasty, the game crashes just as its about to load a game up. I figured this was due to some config change with one of the mod files, so I uninstalled the game, and then reinstalled it. I then tried to play with my dynasty again, but it crashed all the same. I then went out and tried to play a non-dynasty exhibition game, which worked fine. So...there seems to be a problem with my dynasty on this new installation, however there was no problem at all on my old computer. Does anyone know why this could be?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot, and keep up the good work! Gord, Waterloo, Canada
Ghostrider
Your problem could be attributed to a number of things. I'm going to go with the easiest troubleshooting first and we'll keep trying things until your game works again. 1. Try changing the stadium before you start your dynasty game and see if it still crashes. If so, let me know and we'll move on and try something else. gordgraff
Ghostrider, thanks for replying I tried that and in dynasty it crashes under all the stadiums i have tried so far, and in non-dynasty (factory default) it does not crash
Ghostrider
It's probably an issue with rosters, cyberfaces, or portraits. If you have MVPEdit, you can start that up while your game is running and go through the players on your team and see if any of the portrait or cyberface data looks corrupt. If you did a mass install of a bunch of mods, chances are pretty good that something went wrong. Are you using the MVP 07 total conversion mod? Do you have that installed as well as MVP 07 patch 2? gordgraff
I actually uninstalled the game (with updates) and then reinstalled the game, so that it now is the factory default version of the game, except for my user info & dynasty files. All the portraits are the default ones, as are the uniforms and stadiums.

By "default version of the game" do you mean MVP 2005 version? If so, do you have all of the patches installed for it?
gordgraff
Yes, the MVP 2005 version. I actually totally forgot about the patches, and they totally fixed what my next question was going to be...as the graphic performance was horrible. The patches solved that issue, thank you...but alas, not the dynasty crashing problem.

Now I need to know what mods/updates you installed with this new installation, specifically roster updates, potraits, cyberfaces, etc. It's likely that your dynasty save is looking for something that isn't there. gordgraff
Yes, that is correct. My NEW system currently has no mods added. My old system (which I played my dynasty from) did have cyberface, portrait, stadium, uniform, overlay, and some audio mods (i think that is it). Most of these were just new files (ie. new stadium files), so I didn't think there would be a problem just copying them over. Also, when I copied the files over from my old system, I looked for any file that had been modified past the factory installation (2004/2005) and copied it over. Perhaps that was't the best way to do it, but i assumed that since the games were the same, it would be ok.
Ghostrider
Your dynasty is most likely using the roster file inside the dynasty save to look for cyberfaces or portraits that don't exist in the file system anymore. You'd have to get confirmation from some of the modders that this is what is wrong, but that would be my best guess. I'm no expert, but from the situation you describe, it sounds like your game crashes when it is trying to access player portraits or cyberfaces. If you click on everyone in your lineup does a portrait come up for all of them or does the game crash also? Try clicking on everyone in the computer lineup too. gordgraff
Yes, that makes sense...I will try that next. However, I didn't notice any trouble seeing the portraits in the dynasty file the first time I installed the game and copied over my old portrait.big file. I will check again though. Right now, with the default (& patched) factory portrait.big file, my dynasty players that don't have an old portrait just show the 'no portrait' image, which is normal. Also, I should mention again that the game crashes as it is loading up a game, not in the menu anywhere. It crashes every time the same way...it loads to about 1/2 the way (on the screen showing the controller and buttons) and then crashes back to the desktop. Another thing...on my old computer, my hard drive was H:, but on my new system it is C:...is it possible that my old dynasty file is looking for a file on the H: because that is the drive letter my old system used? Hopefully it doesn't save the drive letter into itself for purposes of looking for files.
Ghostrider
It's possible that it is looking for a path of C: but I would think that the code would be smarter than that. If your portraits check out OK and the stadiums are fine, then it's probably a uniform, cyberface, or model issue.

gordgraff
Ghostrider, its fixed. You were right, the problem was that mods the dynasty was searching for weren't fully loaded. I realised that I forgot to copy the files in the data root directory...such as the all important models.big. That must have been the problem. Its all good now though...thanks so much.
