Edam
The display in the various MVP mods was fine until I had to reinstall my OS, WinXP. Now there is shimmering as noted above and it is quite annoying. I updated the video drivers, tried various 3rd party tweaks (nHancer, RivaTuner, 3dAnalyze) and drivers, updated my sound card driver, used the PCI Latency Tool, but still the shimmering remains. I can get it to look ok using nHancer, but at quite a cost in FPS. I don't want to "just live with it" because it was fine before the reinstall. Any ideas? My last resort is to put the old HD back on as a slave to see what drivers I was using previously. GeForce 6600, AA at 8xS, AF at 16X, Refresh rate 70. big shmooz
Actually that was kind of what I was going to suggest. Perhaps put back your old drivers.
Kccitystar
Install the default NVIDIA drivers and change the refresh rate to 60 as that's what the game best runs on.
Edam
Thanks for the suggestions. I will try each of them. What a hassle this has been. Going on 2 weeks slowing getting everything back and I have no idea what caused the OS crash. I have everything protected, BUT, I turn off the protection when playing games so as not to slow them down...sometimes I will forget to turn the protection back on when I start surfing again, so I must have picked up a "nasty" during one of those times. Edam
SOLVED Just for historical purposes, in the event that someone has a similar problem, I'm posting what worked for me. Granted, no two systems are alike, and what works for one person will not work for another. After putting my old hard drive back in to see what drivers I was using, it turns out that they were 91.47, so this is what solved the bad shimmering. The 91.47 drivers nHancer with the settings: Supersampling = 2X2 AF = 16X Vertical Sync = Application (I have it ON in MVP) Optimizations: High Quality Negative LOD bias = Clamp Compatibility: Conformant Texture Clamp = ON Everything else off. There is still a tiny bit of shimmering in some areas, but not enough to be distracting.
