piranesi
I know there's a lot of posts about hitting too many home runs, but the general advice is usually just "change the sliders" or "move up to all star/mvp." I was hoping there might be some consensus among people who have spent a lot of time tweaking sliders about how to lower home runs but not effect other aspects of the gameplay. Here is the situtation: MVP '07/KSM datafile 3 with a slightly modified version of Freud's Pro sliders (I've already lowered batting power a bit). St. Louis Cardinals dynasty. So far, the results are VERY realistic in terms of outcomes, pitching, overall performances (the team is 10-10 and every pitching performance is tense...a good mixture of low and high scoring games and as in real life the Cardinals hitters seem to pile on for two or three games and then fall silent for three or four.) But...too many of my runs are on solo home runs. the team has hit 35 in 20 games which is probably too many by half. It only really bugged my in the last game I played when Preston Wilson hit three home runs in one game. Mind you no one else on the team did jack...but it was still odd. In the previous game I lost a 14 inning game 3-2...a great game, but as usual, both runs on solo home runs. So, clearly I don't want to move up to all star and start over. Things are pretty near perfect. What I hope is that is some combination of sliders that will decrease home runs without messing up other things. For instance: 1) If I decrease user batting power a lot, does that mean that every ground ball or line drive I hit will die in the infield? 2) If I increase CPU pitching control, does that mean that they will make fewer mistake pitches (meaning less HRs) OR that they will throw more balls in the strike zone (possibly meaning more HRs or too many easy hits up the middle)? 3) Also has anyone experimented with just not using the left analog while hitting except in Sac. Fly situations? Will a lot of base hits turn into ground outs if I don't use the stick at all? I have gotten some key singles moving the stick up-and-to-pull. The biggest problem seems to be with stone-cold pull hitters like Wilson, Chris Duncan, and Edmonds. These guys aren't going to take a swing at anything on the outside part of the plate with less than 2 strikes anyway, so it's not realistic to not have them try to pull the ball. But this seems to mean a lot of easy HRs (Edmonds has 8 in 20 games, Duncan has 6, Wilson now has 5 or 6). Are there any sliders I'm missing that might also effect this? Again, so far KSM's datafile is overall leading to some fantastic games, so i don't want to mess around too much. It just galls me that Preston Wilson is now one of a handful of Cardinals to have a three-home-run game. If Adam Kennedy ever does it....oh wait, he's out for two months in my dynasty too now... :biglaff:
