nevermoor
What happened to my "Owner Mode" game: Once I figured out how to change the time on DL value, I used the Importer/Exporter to try it (I only ever edited extra.dat). Somehow, that process severely effed up my roster.dat file, making it so that both NL lineups on most teams (note: All franchises at all levels) had a missing player. As a result, the game crashes when it tries to simulate games. Naturally I was too confident in my ability to back up the original exported files, and I saved once the DL change was made, not knowing that all of baseball was in ruins. On the A's (my team) the spot where roster.dat had no player starting, the roster screen had a duplicate version of one of my other starters. Swapping them out swapped them from both of their slots. I was able to edit roster.dat and play around with the in-game roster control to fix all of the teams I had access to. In an attempt to solve the larger problem, I wrote a little program to analyze the entire roster.dat file and tell me where there were holes in lineups. I then edited roster.dat to fill in all the holes, hoping that I could then import it and solve my problem. I imported it, tried to advance a day, and the game crashed again. Since then, I've tried importing and then exporting, and the file that comes back is not the same as the one I import. It has about 2/3 as many lineup holes as before, which strikes me as very odd. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I've put a lot of time into this Owner Mode, and would hate to have to start over. Thanks in advance (and, yes, not having backups at the beginning makes me an idiot. No need to emphasize that particular point).
nevermoor
Upon further review, the defensive alignments were also messed up. I went into the GUI (using MVP Editor to switch "my" team) and first tried to edit all the lineups. Not all of them worked (some had the same double position effect described above) so I went to export/import a fixed version and lost a significant number of changes. I hope that is because defensive alignments were also bad, so I've now fixed all of them (via the GUI) and will manually repair the roster.dat file in the morning and hope that after that my defensive alignments are still good and I can fix all the lineups. Hopefully doing that will save me. I'm still extremely perplexed as to how futzing around with Milton Bradley's extra.dat line caused all this chaos, but somehow it did. nevermoor
Ok, now I really need pointers. I fixed roster.dat so that every team in the game has all nine positions and is represented by nine different players (the secret was to fix the defensive alignments in game, export roster.dat, run my progam, make changes, import roster.dat, and edit the batting orders in game). The problem is not, however, solved. I tried to sim through a couple days to see if things were stable, it finished the day I was on, showed the next day, and crashed. I reloaded and tried to do "CPU Optimize Rosters" but that also crashed the game. Is there anything else I could have broken that would cause these problems? Thanks in advance...
