14-26??? WTF is going on out there in the Bay? I say we dig Martin back up and prop him up in the dugout, get some kind of motivation for these boys. Bring Jackson out of retirement, and suit him up! Reinstate Canseco!

Ok, the Martin comment was uncalled for, we could opt for a poster instead. :) I totally adored the guy.

Anyway, go A's!!! :)

Heh...I don't know what to tell you man. You will probably enjoy this series, but unfortunately you guys don't play us all season. Doesn't look good, especially with the Angels coasting like they are... :priest:

That guy can go perform an unnatural act upon himself. He goes and converts 350 straight saves, and Sabean resigns him - I still drive to 24 Willie Mays Plaza and punch both of them in their stupid faces.

I hate that guy more than Y4L hates Kyle Farnsworth and the entire historical roster of the Red Sox...combined.

You might want to reinstall your game - I'm fairly certain it's broken...more so than JR's crappy Bums dynasty. :D

Misch Continues to Roll in Giants Victory

Lefty helps himself with two-RBI night

may16tj2.jpg

The season started with experts focusing on Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum as the anchors of a young,

but effective, Giants pitching staff. But another hurler is slowly stealing the spotlight.

Pat Misch improved to 7-1 with tonight's victory, keeping his season ERA under three, despite allowing

four runs on six hits in seven and two-thirds innings. While he didn't have his best game on the mound,

the left-hander made up for it at the plate, going two-for-three while driving in two runs in support of

himself.

After Oakland jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, the Giants jumped on A's starter Chad Gaudin for seven

runs, chasing him from the game after just two and two-thirds innings.

A five-run third did most of the damage for San Francisco, starting with a solo home run from Kevin

Frandsen, his 12th of the season. Frandsen also drove in the final run of the frame, plating Nate

Schierholtz with a bases loaded walk.

The 7-8-9 hitters drove in six of the Giants nine runs tonight, while the bottom five hitters in the line-

up combined to go 10-for-21 with six RBI and seven runs scored.

Scoring

T1: Kotsay solo HR

T2: Suzuki grounds out to first, Chavez scores

B2: Schierholtz single scores Winn, Vizquel

B3: Frandsen solo HR; Vizquel double scores Wood, Molina; Misch reaches on an error by the third

baseman, Vizquel scores; Frandsen walks, Schierholtz scores

Giants Implode in Ninth, Fall 8-4

Five-run ninth propels Oakland to victory

may17fm5.jpg

Matt Cain was stellar through his first seven innings, allowing just one run until he surrendered a two-

run home run to Travis Buck in the eighth to tie the game at three.

Cain stayed in to start the ninth, but got into trouble and gave way to Randy Messenger with the go-

ahead run in scoring position. That is when, as they say, the wheels fell off.

Messenger surrendered a single to Bobby Crosby, giving Oakland a 4-3 lead. Scott Munter came in af-

ter Messenger put another runner on with a walk and surrendered a two-run double to Buck. Then,

for good measure, a two-RBI double to relief pitcher Justin Duchscherer. A five-run ninth inning later,

the Giants were down 8-3.

Nate Schierholtz capped off his three-for-three day with a solo shot in the ninth, but that is all the

Giants would muster.

In a "whodathunkit" moment in the fourth inning, Bengie Molina collected his first triple since 2006. Ah,

the joy of triple's alley.

Scoring

T2: Chavez solo HR

B5: Cain grounds out to third, Vizquel scores

B6: Winn two-run HR

T8: Buck two-run HR

T9: Crosby single scores Kotsay; Buck double scores Swisher, Crosby; Duchscherer double scores

Suzuki, Buck

B9: Schierholtz solo HR

W – Duchscherer (1-1) L – Cain (4-3)

Another Five-Run Ninth Gives Oakland Series

Giants falter late in second straight game

may18ar8.jpg

For the second straight night, a five-run ninth inning by Oakland proved to be the difference as the

Giants fell 8-5 to their Bay Area rivals.

Tim Lincecum allowed three runs on five hits in seven innings, striking out seven. The right-hander also

walked six, two of which helped the A's post a three-run fifth inning to negate an early 2-0 Giants lead.

Brad Hennessey pitch well in the eighth to keep the Giants within one, but imploded in the ninth, sur-

rendering five runs on four hits and two walks. Bruce Bochy wouldn't comment following the game as

to why Hennessey was left in the game through the A's ninth-inning outburst.

The Giants managed to plate three runs in the bottom of the frame, but fell short in the end. Kevin

Frandsen hit his 13th home run of the season in the third inning.

Scoring

B2: Vizquel double scores Winn

B3: Frandsen solo HR

T5: Kotsay double scores Stewart; Crosby sacrifice fly scores Kotsay; Chavez solo HR

T9: Swisher single scores Stewart; Chavez double scores Kotsay, Swisher; Buck triple scores Chavez,

Ellis

B9: Schierholtz single scores Vizquel; Aurilia two-run HR

W – Blanton (2-3) L – Lincecum (2-4)

Player of the Game:

Omar Vizquel 2-2, 2B, RBI, BB

Marathon Game Ends in Giants Victory

Foppert surrenders just three hits over seven scoreless innings of relief

may19hm5.jpg

HOUSTON, Tex. - Tonight, in front of 28,975 fans, the San Francisco Giants and Houston Astros faced

off in one of the best games in years at "The Juice Box."

Five days ago, Barry Zito and Wilfredo Ledezma combined to allow just seven total hits as the Astros

beat San Francisco 1-0 at AT&T Park. Ledezma surrendered just two hits in his shutout performance,

punching out nine in the process. Zito allowed his only run on a solo shot to Jody Gerut in the top of

the eighth inning.

Tonight, both hurlers were at it again, each throwing shutout baseball. This time, it was Zito who held

his opposition to just two hits, but Ledezma wouldn't let the Giants offense off their leash, holding

them to just six hits through nine and one-thirds innings.

zitoqt7.jpg

Barry Zito was dominant for his second straight outing, allowing just two hits while striking out seven in

nine innings.

ledezmacp8.jpg

Wilfredo Ledezma was just as effective, holding the Giants to just three hits until the tenth inning.

The Giants finally broke through in the tenth, scoring two runs on three hits off Ledezma before chas-

ing him from the game with one out. But Sean Burroughs responded off Giants closer Brian Wilson in

the bottom of the frame, blasting a two-run home run to tie the game at two.

The bullpens then took over, with Brad Hennessey and Jimmy Barthmaier battling through three score-

less innings before Hennessey gave way to Jesse Foppert.

Foppert put the Giants on his shoulders, allowing just three hits over seven stellar innings of relief, but

the Giants offense continued to be shut down.

foppertma7.jpg

Jesse Foppert pitched the game of his life tonight, holding Houston to just three hits over seven scoreless

innings of relief.

In the bottom of the 20th inning, as Foppert was noticeably tiring, the Astros mounted a charge, load-

ing the bases on two hits and an intentional walk. But Foppert wouldn't falter, inducing a flyout from

Carlos Lee to leave the bags full.

Then, in the 21st inning, San Francisco put the pressure on Troy Patton with a leadoff double from Fred

Lewis. A groundout from Kevin Frandsen put Lewis at third with just one out, but Dan Ortmeier popped

out to first to put the spotlight on rookie Brandon Wood.

Wood took a strike, then chopped a 0-1 pitch to short, forcing Adam Everett to charge hard and throw

to first off-balance. Wood was off like a shot out of the box, beating Everett's throw by half a step

while Lewis slid into home with the go-ahead run.

lewisgp6.jpg

Fred Lewis led off the 21st inning with a double, and later scored the winning run on an infield single by

Brandon Wood.

Randy Messenger entered to pitch the bottom of the 21st and surrendered a single to Hunter Pence

to lead off the frame. But Bengie Molina, who caught all 21 innings for San Francisco, showed no signs

of fatigue as he gunned down Pence at second to catch him stealing. Messenger then walked Gerut,

who advanced to second on a groundout by the next hitter, Everett. A weak flyout from Lou Santangelo

left the tying run at second, ending the marathon.

The game was the longest by innings since August 31, 1993, when Minnesota and Cleveland battled

to a 21-inning, 5-4 Twins victory. Since 1957, the longest game by innings in the major leagues is 25,

done three times - most recently on May 8, 1984, in a Chicago White Sox victory over the Milwaukee

Brewers. It was the longest game for the Giants since September 1, 1967, a game they won 1-0 over

the Cincinnati Reds. Their longest game since moving to San Francisco was a 23-inning contest they

won in New York against the Mets, 8-6, on May 31, 1964.

Since 1957, there have been 16 games that covered 21 innings or more. The Giants have been part

of two of them.

Scoring

T10: Ortmeier single scores Aurilia; Wood grounds out to second, Frandsen scores

B10: Burroughs two-run HR

T21: Wood single scores Lewis

W – Foppert (2-1) L – Patton (0-2) S - Messenger (1)

Player of the Game:

Jesse Foppert 7 IP, 3 H, O R, 2 K, 3 BB

My goodness. What a marathon of a game!

True statement. I was sure Santangelo was going to single, driving in Gerut and forcing us to play about 20 more innings. But yet again, a Giants pitcher throws a stellar game, and the offense just can't do anything to support him. I'm surprised they didn't screw Foppert out of a win...

That being said though, these are the kinds of wins that start win streaks. We'll see what happens. :D

Oswalt Stellar in Win Over Giants

Defending Cy Young winner allows just one run over eight and one-thirds innings

may20di5.jpg

The National League's 2007 Cy Young Award winner has struggled thus far in 2008, posting a 2-6 re-

cord with an ERA over 4.50.

But tonight, Roy Oswalt showed the form that has made him one of the best pitchers in recent memory,

holding San Francisco to just one run on two hits while striking out nine and walking two in eight and

one-thirds innings.

His counterpart, Kevin Correia, was effective in his third straight outing, allowing three runs on six hits

while striking out seven and walking one in six and two-thirds innings. But the two runs he allowed in

the seventh proved to be the difference.

Jody Gerut homered in his second straight game for Houston, finishing two-for-four with a double,

home run and three RBI to pace the Astros.

Scoring

B4: Gerut solo HR

T5: Davis grounds out to short, Velez scores

B7: Everett grounds out to short, Pence scores; Santangelo solo HR

B8: Berkman double scores Burke; Pence single scores Berkman; Gerut double scores Lee, Pence

W – Oswalt (3-6) L – Correia (3-5)

Another Extra-Inning Victory Gives Giants Series Win

Misch's dominance continues for San Francisco

may21yg0.jpg

Pat Misch continued to shine today, allowing just two runs on five hits while punching out five in seven

innings for San Francisco.

However, Fernando Nieve matched the lefty, allowing two runs on six hits in seven innings. All runs

scored in regulation were on home runs, the first coming when Kevin Frandsen gave the Giants a 1-0

lead in the fourth with his 14th shot of the season.

Carlos Lee then gave Houston a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame with a two-run shot, his sixth of

the year. Randy Winn tied the game with his fifth of the year in the seventh, give the game a 2-2 score

that would last until the tenth.

In the tenth, Rich Aurilia came through with yet another clutch pinch-hit appearance, driving in Winn to

put the Giants up 3-2.

Randy Messenger, who got the save in the 21-inning game earlier this series, improved to 2-0 with a

victory. Brian Wilson closed out the game to earn his 13th save.

Scoring

T4: Frandsen solo HR

B4: Lee two-run HR

T7: Winn solo HR

T10: Aurilia single scores Winn

W – Messenger (2-0) L – Barthmaier (4-2) S - Wilson (13)

Just a heads up to those that follow, I've recreated my old mailbag template (the one I used in the Giants dynasty that crashed awhile back). If you think of any questions for the organization, feel free to post 'em. I'll post a mailbag everytime I collect about 4-5 questions.

Mailbag-What are the plans for Molina and Vizquel in the future? Also, are there guys ready to step into these positions later in the season should they slump or suffer injuries?
