Mailbag-What are the plans for Molina and Vizquel in the future? Also, are there guys ready to step into these positions later in the season should they slump or suffer injuries?

As a Giants fan, it's good to see you have an interest in this. Hopefully it will be more fun than this season was...

Thanks for the question :D

Winn Homer Short of Cycle in 8-3 Victory

Lincecum leaves with blister in second inning

may24ih1.jpg

With a new batting order in place, the San Francisco Giants offense erupted for eight runs tonight, six

of which came in a decisive fourth inning in their victory over the Colorado Rockies.

It wasn't all good news for San Francisco, however, as Tim Lincecum was pulled with a finger blister

after striking out Jeff Baker to lead off the second inning. Bruce Bochy had this to say following the

game:

"It's a small blister on his index finger. He's never had this problem before, so hopefully a little extra

rest will allow it to heal and we can get him back on track. We will skip his next start and take it from

there."

Jesse Foppert came in for Lincecum and continued to audition for his chance to start, allowing just one

run on eight hits in six innings of relief, improving to 3-1 with the victory.

Randy Winn fell a home run short of the cycle, going three-for-five with three RBI to pace San Francisco.

But that's when the Giants offense pulled away, scoring seven runs over the final two innings. The

biggest blow came in the eighth when a bases loaded triple from Kevin Frandsen capped off a five-run

frame.

Barry Zito got two outs in the ninth, but couldn't close the door, giving way to Scott Munter to finish

the Giants 11-3 win.

Scoring

In the sixth, Carlos Delgado and Lastings Milledge went back-to-back to put the Mets up 4-1, a lead

they would hold until an RBI single from Randy Winn tied the game at four in the bottom of the eighth.

quickly with a solo home run in the tenth, leading New York to a 5-4 victory.

Pat Misch continued his early success, allowing just three runs, two earned, on seven hits in seven

and two-thirds innings. But the lefty was in line for a loss until the Giants offense erupted for three

runs in the bottom of the ninth.

Orlando Hernandez held the Giants to just one run through his first eight innings of work, finally fault-

ering in the ninth. Billy Wagner entered with one out in the frame and surrendered the tying run on an

RBI single from Bengie Molina.

Brad Hennessey pitched a scoreless ninth for San Francisco, but gave up the deciding run on Milledge's

Giants outhit 14-9, but leave with victory

may30vl8.jpg

The San Francisco Giants drove Kyle Kendrick out of the contest with a four-run fifth inning, but a re-

silient Phillies offense came back to send the game into extras.

Barry Zito allowed four runs on 14 hits in eight and two-thirds innings, giving way to Randy Messenger

with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth. Messenger induced a groundout from Shane Victorino

to preserve the 4-4 tie.

The Phillies struck first in the contest with a two-run second inning, but Omar Vizquel capped off the

fifth inning with a three-run shot, his fifth of the season, to put the Giants ahead 4-2.

Philadelphia tied it up in the seventh on an RBI double from Chase Utley and an RBI single from Pat

Burrell. The two combined to go seven-for-10 and drive in three of the Phillies four runs.

Giants Offense Ends May with 11-Run Performance

Molina falls a triple short of the cycle

may31ka8.jpg

Kevin Fradsen paced the Giants offense with two home runs and five RBI, and Bengie Molina finished

four-for-four and a triple short of the cycle as the San Francisco Giants finished the month of May with

an 11-8 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Both starters were chased before the end of the fifth inning, with Cole Hamels allowing seven runs on

nine hits and Kevin Correia surrendering eight runs on 10 hits.

Those struggles brought the game down to the bullpens, with the Giants relievers combining to throw

four and one-thirds scoreless innings. The Phillies bullpen surrendered four runs on six hits in their

three and two-thirds innings of work.

Five Giants posted multi-hit games with three driving in multiple runs. The Giants ensured at least a

series split in the four-game set with the victory.

Scoring

T1: Utley double scores Helms

B1: Ortmeier two-run HR; Frandsen two-run HR

T2: Helms double scores Hamels, Rollins

T3: Utley solo HR

Frandsen tied with Howard for homers.

I hope he comes up big like that next year for the real Giants

Heh...that'd be nice, huh :D

Obviously, Frandsen probably isn't going to develop into a power hitter. However, if someone would f'n start the guy, I think he could be the Giants #2 hitter/second baseman for many years - ala Robby Thompson.

But, he can't develop into that until the Giants let him. Moving him all over the field at random just screws with the kids head. Durham is on the downslide and shouldn't be starting at second...hell, anywhere...anymore.

Do a 70/30 platoon of Frandsen/Durham and let the kid learn the game. In an ideal world, Sabean could get someone to give up $100 or so to trade for Durham straight up.

Now I'll step off my soapbox... :soap:

Exactly, didn't he play nearly every position except CF and 1B this year, and with the season Durham had, I'd be inclined to let him take over 2B full time. When he started getting regular playing time his offense picked up dramatically. Personally, with Frandsen as the future for 2B, I find it hard to come to grips with the fact that Sabean resigned Durham for 2 years at the start of 07.
