Exactly, didn't he play nearly every position except CF and 1B this year, and with the season Durham had, I'd be inclined to let him take over 2B full time. When he started getting regular playing time his offense picked up dramatically. Personally, with Frandsen as the future for 2B, I find it hard to come to grips with the fact that Sabean resigned Durham for 2 years at the start of 07.

Yep, everything but first and center (and catcher/pitcher). He struggled in July/Aug as they were being so flippant with him; but he had an amazing September, hitting .370 in more at bats than he saw in any other month.

To be fair to Sabean, Durham had a fantasic season in '06, so it's hard to debate a short deal. But it also doesn't take a lot of brainpower to know it's time to move away from Durham and start Frandsen. Worst case, Frandsen plays like Durham this season and you still need a second baseman. Most probable case, you discover your second baseman for the forseeable future.

Giants Prepping Villalona for First

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Francisco Giants top prospect, Angel Villalona, has begun the transition to

first base, accoring to team officials in an interview earlier today.

Villalona, 17, was signed by the Giants out of the Domincan Republic in 2006. The teenage slugger

received a $2.1 million signing bonus from San Francisco and is widely considered their best position

player prospect in over a decade. The right-hander has been compared to Miguel Cabrera and Adrian

Beltre.

One of his greatest weaknesses, however, is that he appears to be growing out of his third base

position. At 6'2", 220 pounds, the 17-year old will more than likely continue to grow for at least three

more years. If that happens, he will be better suited for first base, which is what the Giants are be-

ginning to think as well.

Villalona has begun taking grounders at first and could start there as early as tomorrow night. The

Giants have continually stressed that he will be moved through the system slowly, probably reaching

Double-A Connecticut at the most this season.

Since joining Single-A San Jose out of extended spring training earlier this season, Villalona is hitting

.276 with four home runs and 21 RBI.

Four-Run Eighth Gives Giants Four-Game Sweep

Cain struggles in second straight outing

june2rs3.jpg

The San Francisco Giants scored all eight of their runs over their final three innings, negating an early

6-0 Philadelphia lead to down the Phillies 8-6, finishing off a four-game sweep at AT&T Park.

The Phillies built their early lead off Matt Cain, who has now allowed 13 runs over his last 12 innings,

dating back to the complete game he lost 1-0 at Coors Field on May 23.

The first four Phillies runs came in the first inning after Cain loaded the bases with two walks and an

infield single. Shane Victorino then cleared the bases with a grand slam before an out was recorded.

The Phillies added two more in the fourth to give Scott Mathieson a comfortable advantage.

San Francisco started their rally in the sixth, plating three runs on an RBI single from Randy Winn and

a two-RBI double by Nate Schierholtz.

After scoring another in the seventh, the Giants took their only lead of the game with a four-run eighth,

capped off with a bases clearing double from Brandon Wood.

Brian Wilson allowed one baserunner in the ninth, but shut the door on the Phillies to pick up his 15th

save.

Nate Schierholtz collected two doubles and Kevin Frandsen drove in his 46th run of the season for

San Francisco.

Tenth-Inning Blast Ends Giants Win Streak

Lincecum stellar again in another no-decision

Tim Lincecum continues to pitch well despite his lack of run support, as Conor Jackson can contest after

his strikeout in the first inning.

Stephen Drew took advantage of Linecum's only mistake tonight, blasting the pitch over the right field wall

to give Arizona a 1-0 lead in the eighth.

Bengie Molina sacrifices Randy Winn to second in the bottom of the eighth. After a single from Nate Schier-

holtz, Winn scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly from pinch-hitter Rich Aurilia.

tenth on his way to his second loss of the season.

Giants Rally Late to Tame Snakes

Wilson bends, but doesn't break for 16th save

june4kw5.jpg

The Arizona Diamondbacks took a 3-0 lead through six-and-a-half innings against Barry Zito, but the

Giants offense opened up for five runs over their final two innings to take the second game of a three-

game set, 5-4.

Orlando Hudson drove in two runs in the contest for Arizona, the first on a solo shot in the third and

the second with an RBI double in the seventh.

The Giants tied the contest with a three-run seventh, capped off with a two-RBI single from Omar Viz-

quel. They added two more in the eighth on an RBI groundout from Guillermo Rodriguez and an RBI

single from Nate Schierholtz.

They would need both of those runs as closer Brian Wilson struggled in the ninth, surrendering a run

on a single from Chris Young before finally closing the door for his 16th save.

San Francisco Cruises to Series Win with 10-3 Victory

Frandsen's monster day leads the Giants

june5kv3.jpg

Kevin Frandsen continued his torrid offensive pace tonight, going three-for-four with a double, two

home runs and five RBI as the Giants took the three-game series with a 10-3 victory.

Another Kevin, Correia, had a solid game as well, allowing just two runs on six hits over seven innings.

He improved to 4-5 with the win.

But the story was Frandsen, who's five RBI pushed his season total to 51. He is now just one home

run shy of 20 on the season.

San Francisco's 2-3-4-5 hitters all collected multi-hit games. Every Giants starter is now hitting over

.250 on the season - none are over .300.

Scoring

B1: Wood single scores Vizquel; Frandsen three-run HR; Molina solo HR

B3: Frandsen two-run HR

T4: Closser two-run HR

T8: Young solo HR

B8: Schierholtz double scores Frandsen, Winn, Molina

W – Correia (4-5) L – Webb (5-2)

21-38? What the he..? Looks like we need to get your game fixed too, sf. :)

Wow, great game on June 3rd, but don't you hate getting beat in extras? :)

If you guys played us all season, you'd have a .667 win percentage right now :D

Losing in extras is about as worthless as the Bums not going 0-162 every season. Ridiculous.

Misch is amazing this year! Wow, you should've gave him Zito's money.

Yeah, he's been stellar. Obviously he's gone above and beyond all my expectations.

Contract wise, he's a rookie, so luckily we won't have to worry about paying him any sort of "real" monies for awhile. He'll make near league minimum through 2009, then he's arbitration eligible starting in 2010.

So, with Cain already locked up through 2011 at the cheap, and Lincecum still a few years from arbitration, our rotation is going to be solid for a long time.

Now, if we could find a bat...
