Misch failed to finish the third inning, surrendering seven runs on six hits in two and two-thirds innings as he picked up just his second loss of the season. San Francisco collected only two less hits than the A's, but couldn't piece them together enough to make a solid run after falling behind 10-0 after four innings. Travis Buck hit the only home run of the game, a three-run shot to cap off a four-run fourth inning. Buck and Mark Ellis, the bottom two hitters in Oakland's lineup, combined to drive in seven of the A's 13 runs. But the right-handed hurler took the loss as his offense failed to push a run across against Chad Gaudin, who surrendered six hits and struck out eight to improve to 3-8 on the season. The lone run of the contest came in the sixth inning on an RBI single from Mike Piazza. A one-for-two day raised Piazza's average to .243 on the season. So this afternoon, he did his best to ensure that even one run would bring home a victory. A week before his 24th birthday, Lincecum held the Oakland Athletics to just six hits while striking out 10 in his fourth career complete game. He posted three last season. Brandon Wood drove in two runs for San Francisco, going one-for-three with a sacrifice fly while blast- ing his seventh home run of the season. The Giants made a bit of history in the bottom of the seventh, turning their first triple play since June 14, 1999, in Colorado. On this occasion, Donnie Murphy hit a one-hopper back to the mound, which Lincecum quickly snagged and delivered to third. From there, the play went around the horn, getting Murphy by a half-step at first to complete the feat. Final scoring on the play: 1-5-4-3. sfgiantsflgators
June 8, 2008 Villalona Out 4-6 Weeks with Broken Finger SAN JOSE, Calif. - Giants prized prospect Angel Villalona is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after breaking a finger in last night's contest at Stockton. Villalona was hitting .288 with six home runs and 25 RBI before the injury. The young product of the Domincan Republic injured the finger on a throw from third baseman Brian Bass. It was just Villalona's second start at first base, a move the Giants believe will better suit the 17-year old's continually growing frame. sfgiantsflgators
June 9, 2008 Offensive Struggles Carry Across the Border in 2-1 Loss Hill's ninth-inning single gives Toronto victory The Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants entered the ninth inning tied at one in a classic pitch- er's duel between Shaun Marcum and Barry Zito, respectively. But a single from Grant Hill sent the Blue Jays home with a 2-1 victory, dropping Zito to 2-5 on the season. Zito allowed just two runs on five hits while striking out seven, but was bested by Marcum, who sur- rendered just one run on seven hits in a no-decision. Frank Thomas set himself up to score on Hill's single with a double to lead off the ninth. After Todd Walker struck out, Hill delivered the game-winning hit. Five of the seven Giants hits went for extra bases, including Bengie Molina's second triple of the sea- son. He went all of 2007 without one. Hill Blasts Three Home Runs, Drives in Eight Second baseman's career day downs struggling Giants Entering tonight's contest, Aaron Hill had never hit more than one home run in a game and had never driven in more than three runs. After tonight, the new bar has drastically been raised. Hill started his onslaught in the third inning with the score tied at one, blasting a two-run shot to put Toronto up by two. Two innings later he struck again, blasting a three-run home run for a 6-1 Blue Jays advantage. After the Giants added two in the top of the seventh, Hill went for one more, blasting his second three- run shot of the contest to put the game out of reach for San Francisco. Hill's performance cast a shadow over another quailty outing from Roy Halladay, who surrendered just three runs on seven hits while striking out 10 in seven innings. The first two came in back-to-back starts on May 10 and 16. He won both outings. The last two occurances have come in his last two starts, both losing efforts. sfgiantsflgators
June 12, 2008 Injury Bug Hits Fresno FRESNO, Calif. - In the span of two games, three Giants pitchers at Triple-A Fresno came down with injuries - two of which were severe enough to warrant a trip to the DL. The Giants released pitcher Chin-Hui Tsao prior to their game on June 10 due to poor performance. Three hours later, starting pitcher Chris Begg left the contest in the second inning with back spasms. He has been placed on the 15-day DL. Justin Hedrick came in to relieve Begg, going four innings before leaving with a pain in his ankle. Tests today showed an inflammation of the achilles tendon, forcing him to the DL as well. Yesterday's starter, Matt Kinney, left his start prematurely as well, this time with a fractured nose after a broken bat shot back towards the mound. He is expected to miss his next start, but should return soon after that. To fill the holes, San Francisco has signed free agent hurlers Mike Zagurski and Scott Nestor. Nestor will report to Fresno and Zagurski to Double-A Connecticut. Nick Pereira has been promoted to Fresno from Connecticut as well. The Giants also signed 19-year old outfielder Nate Paronto to a minor league deal. He will report to Single-A San Jose tomorrow.

sfgiantsflgators
June 13, 2008 Drew, Sawx Beat Giants in Grand Fashion Four-run fourth the difference for Boston After winning seven of 10 in their last homestand, the San Francisco Giants won just one of six games on their previous road trip. They hoped that a trip back home would bring some more victories; but the Boston Red Sox and J.D. Drew had other ideas. Boston got out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI groundout from Manny Ramirez. But the big blow came in the fourth inning, after Matt Cain loaded the bases for Drew. One swing later, Boston was up 5-0, plenty of support for Daisuke Matsuzaka who allowed just two runs, one earned, on five hits in a complete game effort. Cain took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits in seven innings. Kevin Frandsen hit his 20th home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh. It was all Curt Schilling would need to hand the Giants their fifth straight loss. Tim Lincecum pitched effectively enough tonight, with the triple and subsequent RBI single from Dustin Pedroia the only blemishes on his night. Four Giants errors, two in the decisive second-inning, made just one of the four runs earned for the young right-hander. He surrendered just seven hits and punch- ed out four in seven innings. Boston started their rally against Barry Zito in the fifth with a game-tying single by Jason Varitek. An RBI triple by Manny Ramirez would give Boston the lead in the sixth. Zito handed the ball off to Brad Hennessey with two on in the eighth and the Giants down 2-1. Hen- nessey surrendered a three-run home run to Mike Lowell, putting the game out of reach. Clay Buchholz settled down after Lewis' blast, holding the Giants scoreless through his next four inn- ings. Kevin Frandsen paced the Giants offense with three RBI, going three-for-five with a home run in the contest. Their 3-4-5-6 hitters all collected multi-hit games, with Dan Ortmeier adding his fourth home run of the season. After losing eight of nine against American League teams, the Giants have taken two straight against the Milwaukee Brewers, ensuring their first series win in four tries. Both starters battled to a stalemate, with Jeff Suppan and Pat Misch each surrendering three runs over their seven innings of work. Two of Suppan's runs were unearned. Both punched out five, with Misch surrendering the only walk. Their bullpens held the opposition scoreless in the eighth, and Randy Messenger threw a perfect ninth, giving the tied game over to his offense. After Nate Schierholtz and Rich Aurilia walked with one out, Fred Lewis sacrificed the two over for Omar Vizquel. With the third baseman at medium depth, Bruce Bochy took a chance, calling for the squeeze play. Vizquel excuted it perfectly, placing the bunt inches away from the third baseline. Matt Cain pitched well until the eighth inning, leaving the game with two outs and two men on. When he left, the right-hander had allowed three runs; after Scott Munter faced his first batter, Cain had been charged with five. Rivera's three-run shot capped off a four-run eighth for the Brewers, but Yovani Gallardo pitched well enough to put Milwaukee in a position to win before the blast. Gallardo allowed just one run on three hits over seven strong innings on his way to win number four. Cain fell to 5-7 after allowing five runs on 10 hits.
