Well then, sorry about that, and I really do hope you bounce back and come out of this slump.

Mailbag questions:

1. What is wrong with Matt Cain as he has already given up 16 HRs and what is the pitching coach doing to rectify any problems he maybe having?

2. With Dodgers trying to run away with the division, will the organization think about benching one of its young players and are they thinking about acquiring a veteran to fill the shoes? Maybe a trade for Chipper Jones to solidify 3rd base?

Bonds on the Move?

CHICAGO - In unconfirmed reports out of the Chicago Cubs camp, word around the friendly confines is that the Cubs are in talks with a couple of teams about potentially working out a trade for Barry Bonds.

With the Cubs almost eight games behind the St. Louis Cardinals, the lovable losers will need to start getting hot soon if they hope to make a run at the Redbirds. Many believe that, if the Cubs can't make up ground in the next few weeks, Bonds will be moved to an American League contender.

So far this season, Bonds is hitting .311 with 14 home runs and 46 RBI in 70 games. He has slowed down offensively in the past couple of weeks though, most likely due to still having to man left field for the National League squad. A move to DH could reignite his early season success.

Some obvious destinations are Seattle and Anaheim, each of which are currently tied at the top of the AL West. Another destination is Minnesota, who currently holds an eight game advantage over the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central. All three teams could use a lefty power hitter, although Anaheim seems the most unlikely as their owner, Arte Moreno, has repeatedly expressed his lack of interest in the home-run king.

Tampa Bay is also an interesting possibility, as they trail Boston by just two games in the AL East. As the deadline nears, however, their main focus should be on pitching.

Heh...as long as interleague play doesn't extend further then the upcoming Yankees series, I think we can come back. Those AL teams are beating our butt.

Thanks for the questions - very good ones at that. Guess I have a mailbag to do soon :D

haha, how is pavano able to pitch seven wins.... must of been hooked up to a machine of some sort to stay healthy

The beauty of video games - guys like Pavano and Prior can actually get out of bed without pulling something.

Even Randy Johnson makes an appearance in the upcoming Arizona series - but we're getting ahead of ourselves. :D

San Francisco shut out for ninth time this season

june20tx9.jpg

The San Francisco Giants interleague struggles continued tonight as the New York Yankees took the

first game of a three-game set, 5-0.

Tim Lincecum pitched well until the sixth inning, when the powerful Yankees offense finally broke

through with a three-run frame. Lincecum would put a couple of runners on in the seventh before giv-

ing way to Randy Messenger, who surrendered a two-RBI single to Alex Rodriguez to put New York up

by the final score of 5-0.

Carl Pavano didn't need much support tonight, allowing just four hits over seven and one-thirds inn-

Yanks Ensure Series Win with 12-Inning Victory

Ortmeier drives in three in loss

june21pi6.jpg

With the Yankees 7-6, 12-inning victory tonight, the San Francisco Giants were ensured a series loss,

making them winless in all five interleague series this season. They have won just two games in those

series so far, both against the Oakland Athletics.

The Giants got out to an early lead tonight, scoring two off Ross Ohlendorf on a single by Dan Ortmeier

in the third inning. After a Derek Jeter home run in the bottom of the third, Ortmeier drove in one more

in the fifth to give San Francisco a 3-1 lead.

But the Yankees responded in the bottom of the frame, driving five runs across the plate while chasing

Barry Zito from the game, giving New York a 6-3 advantage.

The Yankees left Ohlendorf in for the eighth, and the Giants took advantage of the fatigued hurler with

a game-tying, three-run home run from Randy Winn.

Mike Mussina entered for New York and finished the eighth before throwing four more shutout innings

as he improved to 3-2. Brad Hennessey threw three and one-thirds innings before the deciding 12th

inning.

Hennessey surrendered a leadoff single to Derek Jeter, who then advance to second on with a stolen

base. The next hitter, Melky Cabrera, drove in the Yankee captain with a single to right, handing the

Giants their third straight loss.

Misch Picks Up Ninth Win in 2-1 Victory Over Friars

Peavy back to form after early injury

june23gk7.jpg

In just his second start since leaving the game early on Opening Day, Jake Peavy looks to have his ace

form back; but Giants rookie Pat Misch continued his success, picking up his ninth victory of the season

with an eight-inning gem.

Peavy surrendered just two runs on four hits in seven innings as he fell to 1-2. Misch allowed just one

run on six hits in eight innings, giving way to Brian Wilson in the ninth to secure the victory.

Dan Ortmeier and Nate Schierholtz each doubled for San Francisco. Ortmeier and Kevin Frandsen each

drove in a run in the first inning to give the Giants their only offense of the game. Andy Phillips drove in

the only San Diego run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Padres Take Series with 6-4 Win

Young improves to 3-0 on the season

june25fo9.jpg

Oh, what could have been for San Diego.

Chris Young was solid again for the Padres, allowing just three runs on eight hits in seven and one-

thirds innings as he improved to 3-0 today against the San Francisco Giants.

Along with Jake Peavy, Young missed a large portion of the season with an early injury. In that time,

the Padres have plumeted to the bottom of the NL West and sit 19 games out of first place. One has

to wonder where they would be if their top hurlers would have stayed healthy.

In today's game, San Diego took a 5-3 lead after four innings before holding on for the victory. Giants

starter Tim Lincecum fell to 3-7 on the season, despite an ERA of just 3.13. He surrendered five runs,

four earned, on eight hits in five innings today.

Fred Lewis paced San Francisco with a three-for-five day, hitting his eighth home run of the season in

the ninth inning. He also stole his 38th base of the season in the third inning.

Scoring

B1: Ensberg double scores M. Giles; Gonzalez solo HR

T3: Ortmeier single scores Lincecum, Lewis; Winn single scores Ortmeier

For the third straight outing, Kevin Correia held opponents to three or less runs as he improved to 7-6

tonight in a 4-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Omar Vizquel and Bengie Molina homered off Randy Johnson in the third and fourth innings respectively,

giving the Giants a 2-0 lead after four. Johnson fell to 3-9 after allowing four runs on eight hits in five

and two-thirds innings.

The Giants got their final two runs in the sixth, with Kevin Correia starting off the scoring with an RBI

Giants manage just four hits in defeat

june29vu5.jpg

Pat Misch fell to 9-4 with the loss today, allowing five runs on nine hits in six innings of work. But with

the game Freddy Garcia had, there wasn't much more that Misch could have done.

From the mound, Garcia surrendered just one run on two hits over eight innings of work. From the

plate, the hurler far from resembled a pitcher as he doubled and homered while driving in two runs,

finishing the game two-for-four as he improved to 6-6.

Just four Giants collected a hit in the contest: Misch, Omar Vizquel, Brandon Wood and Kevin Frandsen.

None went for extra bases.
