Phenom Tim Lincecum takes the hill for the Giants, looking to get more support than in his previous outing where the right-hander held the Padres to just two runs on six hits in seven and one-thirds innings; but Chris Young retaliated with a complete game shutout, giving the Padres a 2-0 victory. Like most predicted, the Giants offense has struggled early, posting a team batting average of just .208 and a team OPS of just .625. However, their pitching staff has stepped up, posting an ERA of 2.83, a BAA of just .215 and a WHIP of just 1.02. First pitch for tonight's contest is scheduled for 7:05 PT. sfgiantsflgators
April 8, 2008 Sigh of Relief Expelled from the Bay SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco Giants received some great news today as the MRI taken on pitcher Tim Lincecum's elbow this morning came back negative. Lincecum, 23, left yesterday's contest with pain in his elbow; but further tests showed an inflammation, allowing everyone to once again take a breath. "It's great news, obviously," said manager Bruce Bochy. "He's an important piece of the puzzle, and will be for many years. He's going to sit out at least one start as a precaution. The off-day Thursday helps out a lot. We'll go with a four-man rotation until he's ready to return." The Giants have two more games today and tomorrow, before getting Thursday off. They then host the Pittsburgh Pirates for a three-game weekend series.

Lewis blasts Giants to extra-inning victory over Friars The Giants and Padres battled for 13 innings tonight before left fielder Fred Lewis sent the San Francisco crowd home happy with a walk-off shot to right. Prior to Lewis' blast, the two teams finished seven innings tied at three before the bullpens combined to throw five shutout frames. Both teams scored one run in the 12th, but Jesse Foppert tossed a perfect top of the 13th for San Francisco to earn the victory. He allowed one run on two hits in two innings in the contest. Randy Winn went three-for-four with two doubles to snap out of a slump that saw him go just one- for-24 in his first seven games. He finished the game five-for-five, falling a triple short of the cycle as the Giants took the rubber match of their first home series of 2008, 5-4. He also added an RBI single to start off the scoring in a three-run second inning for the Giants. sfgiantsflgators
April 10, 2008 "Big V" Promoted to San Jose SAN FRANCISCO - Early today, the San Francisco Giants promoted prize prospect Angel Villalona to Class-A San Jose from their extended spring training team. Villalona, 17, was signed by the Giants in 2006 out of the Domincan Republic for a franchise-record $2.1 million signing bonus. Their previous record for an international signee was $900,000, given to Francisco Liriano in 2000. "We want to take it slow with Angel," said general manager Brian Sabean. "He's still very young, but his talent is immense. We'll see how he handles San Jose and will go from there." Villalona has been compared to a few big-name Latin American players, most notably Miguel Cabrera and Adrian Beltre. He is currently 6'2", 220 pounds and projects to continue growing. He will start at third base in San Jose, but could eventually move to first base if he continues to grow.
