sfgiantsflgators
April 11, 2008 Nine-Run Eighth Propels Giants to Blowout Victory Davis, Frandsen fall just short of cycles Rajai Davis got a rare start tonight and made the most of it against his former team as the speedy outfielder fell a home run short of the cycle in San Francisco's 13-3 beating of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Davis went three-for-five in the contest. Teammate Kevin Frandsen flirted with a cycle of his own, also going three-for-five while driving in four runs as he came up a triple short. His grand slam in the eighth capped off the nine-run frame. Every Giants position player got a hit in the game. Lost in the offensive outburst was a solid performance by rookie Pat Misch. sfgiantsflgators
April 15, 2008 Wilson Rebounds with Four-Out Save in 4-3 Giants Win Rookie Misch improves to 3-0 on the season When it came down to it, Giants manager Bruce Bochy could have held Brian Wilson out of tonight's contest, citing Wilson's appearance in three straight games - instead of his blown saves in two con- secutive games. However, Bochy went to Wilson after the closer's insistence that he was ready to go for a fourth straight night. "My faith in him is as strong as it was in game one," said Bochy after the game. "I talked with both him and the trainers before the game, and both parties indicated that he was 100%. So, naturally, I went with my closer in a save situation." Wilson didn't disappoint, allowing two baserunners over one and one-thirds shutout innings to pre- serve the win for rooke Pat Misch. Misch allowed just two runs, one earned, on five hits in seven and one-thirds innings while punching out six. His ERA this season fell to just 1.27. After the game, Bochy hinted that Wilson will not be available for tomorrow's game in St. Louis. Matt Cain is scheduled to start for San Francisco. Barry Zito and Chris Carpenter battled for six innings before combining to give up five runs in the seventh. The Giants got two to take a 3-2 lead before Josh Bard and Albert Pujols went back-to-back to retake the lead, 6-3. The Giants added three more in the eighth before Aurilia homered off Kip Wells in the ninth, his second game-winning hit in as many pinch-hit appearances. sfgiantsflgators
Twins Brass Confirms Santana Rumors MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Minnesota Twins front office has confirmed that they are listening to offers regarding ace pitcher Johan Santana. Santana, 29, won his third Cy Young Award, second consecutive, last season and will be a free agent in the offseason. After the contract given to Barry Zito by the San Francisco Giants in 2006 (7 years at $126 million), it is assumed that Santana could become the first $200 million pitcher in baseball history. The Dodgers, Mets and Red Sox seem to be the front runners in both money and tradeable talent; the Yankees have shown interest, but coming up with the valuable trade pieces could be tough. An MRI following that contest determined that Lincecum had developed inflammation in his right elbow, better news than most in the organization expected. Manager Bruce Bochy touched on the subject earlier today on his weekly radio interview: "Tim will start tonight, but we're going to watch him carefully. Probably around 80-90 pitches. There's no sign of inflammation anymore, but he's young and the season's young; no need to push either one." First pitch for tonight's game is scheduled for 7:10 PT.
