TwentySeven
Hey guys, I'm fifteen and a half in high school, almost 16. Next summer will be the first year that I am fully eligible to have a job, so I want to find a more 'fun' first summer job. I live in the Bay Area, so hopefully a lot of jobs are available. Because of that, I want to try finding something baseball related. I've obviously done the basics - looking for job opportunities on the A's and Giants websites - nothing really turned up. I've only really started thinking about this, so I was wondering if you guys had any ideas where I could look for said baseball-related jobs, or what sort of jobs I could try. Thanks, -TS

sfgiantsflgators
I hear there's an opening in left field for the Giants. Don't give Sabean any ideas. 27...my best advice would be to actually call the front office of both the Giants and A's and let them know you'd like to get a head start in the sport, and would like to see if they have anything open. That's how I got on with the team I'm with now - worst thing they can do is tell you no.
abc006
Slightly different, but my school requires me to have an internship next year, and I really want to do something baseball-related, but then again it has to be during the school year, and since my town only has a minor league team, there's probably going to be only one month or so of the school year that's baseball season. Homer
TS, if you're really in the stanford area, there's a softball league you can ump at too. one in particular is at a place called Twin Creeks (google them). it's just south of you off of highway 237 in Sunnyvale. i used to play there when i lived in that area. it's part time work, but it's pretty good money for the limited hours. you have to earn your way up, but once you do, there's leagues all over you can ump too. you're lucky being in CA, cuz those leagues play year around too. otherwise, baseball sporting goods stores, memoribilia stores, talk to Stanford themselves and see if the baseball coach has an opening for anything,...just one thing, don't give up. if you really want a job with the giants, the easiest way is to know someone. and since you probably don't, be persistent. meaning, these jobs at your age don't require much skill needed other than reliability, punctuality, and verbal skills higher than a second grader, so be persistent. call them, and show up in person! find out who to talk to about job opportunities, and talk to all of them, once a week until they hire you. at your age, taking no for an answer is the only way to get a position there, because they get hundreds of applicants. and let them know you really want a job, so they should understand that you WILL be calling them once a week until you get one. it's your chance to build a rapport with them, and when they like you enough, you'll get the job. never fails. and if you happen to get a job as a bat boy, don't fall for the key to the batter's box gag!
