redsox
Hey everyone, I have a Sony Vaio, VGN-SZ series and I had recently did a fresh install of my operating system. Everything is working great except for one minor detail - the LCD brightness changes automatically when the battery is charging. If the laptop runs on battery, everything is good. But if I hook up the power for charging the battery, the LCD brightness changes automatically to the lightest value (level 1). Here are the steps I had done for debugging the issues. - Right clicked on my desktop and clicked on screen saver and went to Power Options. - For my power schemes, I set it to VAIO optimized. - Went to VAIO power management and set the LCD brightness to level 4 when "plugged in" and level 4 when "running on battery". - I also set my power saving mode to "OFF" for both the "plugged in" option and the "running on battery" option. But every time, I connect my latop to the wall and if the battery needs to be charged, the LCD brightness changes automatically to level 1. I have tried manually setting the value (FN+F6), but it reverts back in a few seconds. If anyone can shed some light on this matter, it would be very helpful. Thank you. PS: I should note that if the battery is fully charged, and my laptop is connected to the wall, the LCD brightness does NOT change automatically - only happens when charging the battery. evil1182
That happens to me too on my crappy Gateway, I don't understand it either.
MarkB
This is pretty normal - basically, the system tries to save battery life when not charging by reducing the brightness of the LCD screen. Quite a lot of notebooks do it, as well as my Dell Inspiron 1721. The setting for changing it is usually in the BIOS. There should be a setting for default LCD brightness and charging LCD brightness.
