A few questions on how the game works

1. Does the computer pick players to have good years (compared with their ratings)? Or is any upswing in performance just due to randomness? That is, should you play a player with 60 power and contact over a player with 80 power and contact, if the lesser player has been hitting the lights out?

2. How low should you let player energy get before benching them for a game or two? How does the game take this factor into account? How much is injury rate increased, perfromance decreased for, say, every 10% of energy lost?

3. Do innings add up on pitchers? If you have a guy throw 250 innings, is his arm more likely to fall off (i.e. should you conserve your star closer? Or just use him whenever you feel like it?).

1. Hot/cold streaks DO seem to have an affect in the game. (Especially when simming, less so when playing each game).

2. This is personal preference, but with me, if a player gets under 70%, I usually sit them a game, to (A) let them recharge and (B) let my bench players get some time. I know the injury frequency starts to increase the lower the energy goes, but not sure the actual formula(es).

3. As long as the stamina/energy is up - I've never noticed total IP affected anything.

Anyone who has other/more info - please chime in.

I don't know what settings you're playing with, but on MVP difficulty, the ratings definitely matter. I just wondered if anyone knew the gist of the math the program uses, and whether hitters and pitchers have streaks programmed in. This makes a world of difference in terms of managing. In real life, generally decent hitters have crap years, and bad ones have good years. Sometimes (often) it's luck, sometimes it's something else. If there isn't any streakiness or good/bad year programmed in, then you should stick with the same lineup of your best-rated players and use your best pitcher as much as possible. If there is, then you might have to make a judgment call.
