I love baseball because...

I like baseball for a lot of reasons. Here's one. You can watch your favorite football team once a week. You can watch your favorite baseball team at least 5 times a week.

That's the best part of baseball. Sometimes your team plays 4 times a week. Sometimes they play 7 days a week.

my dad once told me Baseball is simple only to the simple-mided.

I heard that when I was about 4 or 5 years old, and I don't know if he made it up or heard it somewhere, but its as true as anything. No sport combines skill, luck, smarts, and athleticism like baseball does. Any dumbass can dunk, or shove a guy at the line. However, even the simplest things in baseball, laying down a bunt, or fielding a groundball takes skill and intellect.

I think laying down a bunt is the easiest thing to do. But, at the same time, it's the toughest.

this quotation from Fever Pitch is pretty cool:

Ben: You know what's really great about baseball?

Lindsey Meeks: Hmm?

Ben: You can't fake it. You know, anything else in life you don't have to be great in - business, music, art - I mean you can get lucky.

Lindsey Meeks: Really?

Ben: Yeah, you can fool everyone for awhile, you know? It's like - not - not baseball. You can either hit a curveball or you can't. That's the way it works...

Lindsey Meeks: Hmm.

Ben: You know?

Ben: You can have a lucky day, sure, but you can't have a lucky career. It's a little like math. It's orderly. Win or lose, it's fair. It all adds up. It's, like, not as confusing or as ambiguous as, uh...

Lindsey Meeks: Life?

Ben: Yeah. It's - it's safe.

I really loved that movie.
Seriously? To be fair, I have refused to watch it for obvious reasons, but I didn't figure that even if it replaced by the 1998 season from a yankee perspective I would have enjoyed it immensely.

I really loved the BOOK

Oh, you mean fever pitch as in the Nick Hornby book about "futbol"? I read about half of it, then for some reason I kind of stopped when I had no time, but I should continue.

I love baseball because Buddha has a round belly.

:biglaff:

when i pitched we always threw the ball around the horn after my last warmup pitch, and the 3rd baseman always walked up to the mound and said, "use the buddha".
