seanzarelli
Ok, so, I was downloading stuff at the *sarcasm* wonderful 150 KB/sec *end sarcasm* and before I knew it, my download speed was down to about 30 KB/sec, so I go out into the living room and see that my little brother is downloading some things as well and I came to the conclusion that instead of splitting speeds between the computers, it was sharing. So then I checked and both computers are sharing the same exact IP Address, and I was wondering why this could be. Because it's really starting to **** me off. Could it be the router that the ISP gave to us?
Lucas
I have the same thing at my house, and its definitely the router.
meteamo
All the computers connected to my router (about 5 or so) have different IP addresses. But, I was under the impression that DSL (if you have that) shares the Internet Connection with everyone else connected to the router and that with Cable Internet, you share it with everyone else in your local area that also has the same Cable Internet. You should at least check your Router to see if the PCs use the same IP address and if so, if you can uncheck the option if there is one.
seanzarelli
I logged into the router, and it gives me no option if I want to share the same IP Address or not.
meteamo
What router are you using? Is it Netgear or Linksys? BTW What I would usually do is to look for a manual or google want you want to know how to do. If you can't find the manual, you can usually google that too or find the manufacturer's website and look for the manual or a FAQ section there. seanzarelli
It's the 2wire 2701HG-B Gateway...It's the one that the ISP supplied us with...The Manual has no information whatsoever about the sharing of an IP Address
meteamo
Is this the one you have? http://store.att.com/Catalog/ProductDetail...tMRG&show=Specs They have link to Product Manuals under Help / Support section on bottom right of page. You may be also able to go to AT&T's website to see if you can find one. Other than that, I'm not familiar with this product. Also, since it's the router you said that the ISP offers, then maybe you can contact the ISP or go to their website and either e-mail them or check their FAQ / Support section. I know with my ISP, they offer support for modem / router they sell.
seanzarelli
No, they don't have the manual, was already there, they only have them for the AT&T 2820 and AT&T 282H. Thanks for the help. Maybe someone else on here might know what's up.

Might shed some light on your problem. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/2wire 2wire Website: http://www.2wire.com/index.php?p=72 *If you've already checked these, just disregard. Good luck man. Chrisnb01
Actually usually the issue with DSL is the farther you are from the station providing your connection the slower the speeds will be. Also the 2wire modems suck. I'm in a house using a linksys wired router connecting three computers and have had no problem. Another thing if multiple computers have the same IP address there is no possible way that either computer can be on the internet and doing anything. You should probably look into setting up a new router probably a linksys or netgear. That might help with the problem you are having.
