donniebaseball23
Game 10 NYY(Kamieniecki1-0) @ DET(Belcher0-2) Five run 5th lifts Yanks Danny Tartabull admires fifth inning 3 run homerun, he went 3 for 4 in the game Detroit - The Yankee bats came back to life today touching up Tiger starter Tim Belcher for 10 hits and 7 runs through just four and a third. Yankee starter Scott Kamieniecki lasted even less than that when he retaliated for Belchers' first inning beaning of Don Mattingly by drilling Kirk Gibson in the ribs with a fastball. Gibson proceeded to charge the mound and was immediately chucked like a used rubber. Kam' got tossed after hitting his second batter, Tony Phillips in the 3rd. The Tigers scored 3 times after that but the Bombers held on to win 7-3, ending a 3 game skid. The two teams hook up again tommorow afternoon before the Yanks head back to the Bronx to begin a 3 game series with Seattle. donniebaseball23
Game 11 NYY(Key2-0) @ DET(Doherty1-1) Yanks end road slip with 4-1 loss A dejected Yankee bench after dropping 4 out of 6 on the road Detroit - Well the Yanks end a dreadful road trip in which they dropped 2 out of 3 in Detroit and 4 out of 6 overall. The Tigers powered their way to a 4-1 victory via the long ball courtesy of 2 jacks by big daddy Cecil Fielder and another by Tiger outfielder Tony Phillips. The Bombers could only muster a measly sac fly off Tiger starter John Doherty. Both teams wore turn of the century throwbacks in commemoration of the 125th anniversary of Major League Baseball, but not much could help the Yanks in this one. They now travel back home for an 8 game stand beginning with 3 against the Mariners, 3 against the A's, and 2 more against the Angels. donniebaseball23
Game 12 SEA(Bosio0-2) @ NYY(Abbott1-0) Yanks snag win, 5-4 Yankee right fielder Paul O'Neill corrals sinking liner, he went 3 for 3 in the game NewYork - Things started ominously for Jim Abbott tonight when the very first pitch out of his hand was wrapped around the foul pole in left by some kid named Alex Rodriguez for a quick 1-0 deficit. By the time he got out of the 1st inning that deficit had grown to a 2-0 Seattle lead. It would stay that way untill the bottom of the 4th when a Don Mattingly solo homerun cut the lead in half. In the bottom of the seventh Yank left fielder Luis Polonia found the short porch in right for a 3 run dinger and a 4-2 Yankee lead. However the M's would come right back in the top of the 8th when Seattle's Jay Buhner took a 2 out 2 strike Bob Wickman letter high fast ball to that same porch to tie the game at 4. In the bottom of the 9th after 2 straight singles and an intentional walk, captain clutch Don Mattingly lifted a John Cummings fastball to center for a sac fly, sending the fans home happy, and the Yanks home winners. donniebaseball23
Game 13 SEA(Hibbard0-0) @ NYY(Perez0-2) Yanks top M's, 6-5 Gerald Williams connects for a 2 run single off M's Greg Hibbard in the 1st NewYork - The Yanks got to Mariner starter Greg Hibbard early in the 1st after he retired the first 2 batters of the inning the Bombers rattled off 5 straight singles to take an early 3-0 lead. The Mariners would cut the deficit to just one run after scoring 2 in the 5th off winless Yankee Starter Melido Perez. But in the bottom of the 6th the Yanks got 3 more off Hibbard who gave up 11 hits in all, lasting just 5 and two thirds innings. The Bombers would take their 6-2 lead into the 9th but suffered a bit of a scare as suddenly the deadly Seattle offense rattled off 3 solo homers in the 9th to come within 1, but closer Steve Howe came in to get the final out of the game which was good enough to record his 3rd save of the season as the Yanks held on by the skin of their teeth to win 6-5, taking the first 2 games of this series. The Bombers look to sweep tommorow afternoon, sending Terry Mulholland to the hill to face the M's Roger Salkeld. donniebaseball23
Game 14 SEA(Salkeld1-1) @ NYY(Mulholland1-1) Bombers slide past M's for the sweep Wade Boggs slides in safely at third. He eventually scored the game tying run in Yanks comeback win NewYork - For the second time in the last three games the Seattle Mariners jumped out to an early lead thanks to the bat of first baseman Tino Martinez who drilled a Terry Mulholland offering into the bleachers in right for a 2-0 lead. They made it a 4-0 lead in the top of the 5th after catcher Dan Wilson was hit by a pitch, the very next pitch was driven deep into the Yankee bullpen by Mariner second baseman Rich Amaral. However the Yanks began to chip away scoring 1 in bottom of the 5th and 2 more in the bottom of the 6th to make it a one run game at 4-3. In the top of the 8th Tino Martinez drove in his third run of the game for a 2 run Mariner lead. In the bottom of the frame Paul O'Neill led off with a homer to pull back within 1. In the bottom of the 9th with 1 out , after getting a single up the middle off closer Bobby Ayala, Wade Boggs moved to 3rd on a Bernie Williams single and then scored on a Mike Stanley pinch hit single tying the game at 5. Paul O'Neill then played hero plating Williams with another single to left for a 6-5 come from behind victory and 3 game sweep of Seattle. donniebaseball23
Game 15 OAK(Darling1-1) @ NYY(Kamieniecki1-0) Yanks win 4th straight, beat A's 4-2 Yankee closer Steve Howe rocks and fires to earn 4th save of the season NewYork - The A's started fast in this one when Rickey Henderson hit a Baltimore chop single then proceeded to steal second and was driven in on Mike Bordick's long homerun to left for an immediate 2-0 lead off Scott Kamieniecki. However thats all the offense Oakland would see in this one as Kamieniecki settled in and cruised through the next 5 innings with relative ease. The Yankees opened their scoring with a run in the bottom of the 1st then took the lead on a 2 out 2 RBI double by DH Danny Tartabull in the 3rd. They added 1 more in the 6th on Luis Polonia's 2nd homer of the year for a 4-2 lead. The bullpen did their job mopping up the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings to give the Yankees their 4th straight win. The Yanks would tie it in the bottom half with a Don Mattingly sac fly. However the A's would shell Key for 14 hits and 8 runs, the big blow coming courtesy of Oakland DH Troy Neel who smashed a 5th inning grand slam to left center field to all but put this one away snapping a 4 game winning streak for the bronx bombers. The A's touched him up for 10 hits and 9 runs in the inning, including 2 home runs, and the big blow came off the bat of Mark McGwire who cleared the jam packed bases with a double to the right center field gap. The offense came alive in the 6th scoring 5 runs off of Angel Chuck Finley, but once again the pitching couldn't keep em down as Sterling Hitchcock was awful in relief.
