Opening Day Pre-Game

It is here, Opening Day, and the crowd in South Florida couldn't be more excited, the Marlins have made some very good transactions during the off-season that we think will benefit the team a great deal the first of which is the signing of catcher Michael Barrett, Michael who played for the San Diego Padres last season was brought in through the free agency market and is expected to be a very good replacement for catcher Miguel Olivo who filed for free agency last season, the second major signing for the Fish this off-season is veteran pitcher Dave Bush, Bush brings a great deal of experience and poise to the young Marlins rotation, he is expected to fill in the void of pitcher Josh Johnson while he is out for the whole season after he underwent Tommy John surgery, last but certainly not least is the signing of reliever Luis Ayala, Ayala played for the Nationals this past season and he is brought in here as a major contributor in the bullpen.

However those were not all the moves the Fish made during spring training the Marlins dealt young pitcher Chris Seddon to the Cleveland Indians for young centerfielder Franklin Gutierrez, Gutierrez is expected to become the starting centerfielder and a final solution to the centerfield issues the team had been having through out the last 2 seasons.

Here is tonight's pitching match up and lineups:

Pitchers Galore in Home Win

Left:Willingham Robs Zimmerman Right: Franklin Gutierrez Throws Austin Kearns out at home

Opening day for the Marlins yielded a great pitchers match up between Joel Hanrahan and Anibal Sanchez, both pitchers were spectacular in their performance and managed to shut the opposition very well.

Joel Hanrahan pitched tremendously he had the Marlins hitless for 4 innings before Josh Willingham singled with a groundball down the middle which was folled by a couple of singles and a 2 run line drive single for Cody Ross, Anibal Sanchez helped his own cause tagging a fastball from Hanrahan back to centerfield for an RBI single. On the other side thing Anibal Sanchez struck out 5 batters in 7 innings while allowing 2 runs that came on a Felipe Lopez homer.

The offense seemed a bit shaky at first the Marlins top 3 batter went 0 for 12 in the game and were a complete non factor today, however the rest of the lineup was very good and managed to get the critical hits when needed. Overall it was a great effort put forth by the team and a very exciting win to start the season for the Fish.

Game Review

The Marlins managed to outdo their opponents in yet another close affair, Ricky Nolasco's first appearance of the season was impressive allowing only 1 run and 6 hits in 6 innings, once again Kevin Gregg was lights out closing, the offense had quite a bit of help from the long ball both Willingham and Jacobs hammered their first homers of the season while Jeremy Hermida had his first double of the Campaign, so far this season is looking bright for the Marlins.

Untouchable!

Left: Austin Kearns homers of Dave Bush. Right: Dan Uggla Robs Nick Johnson.

Game Overview

Tough game and a though loss for the Marlins today, Levale Speigner was un-hittable in his complete game shutout of the Marlins, the only run of the game came in the form of a home run by Austin Kearns in the top of the 2nd. Making his Marlins debut was pitcher Dave Bush he had a tremendous game that was blemished by only one mistake pitch, while the Marlins offense was nowhere to be seen, shortstop Hanley Ramirez has not been able to get his first hit of the campaign while neither Cabrera nor Uggla hve been able to get going. There is much to prove for the Marlins as they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies.

Top: Mike Jacobs scores from second.

Game Overview

It was finally here Dontrelle's first start of the 08 campaign everything was looking radiant and promising, Dontrelle was dominating and holding off the Phillies offense to only 1 single, it seemed as if Dontrelle was finally back to his 04 form, but this dream like day came to a shattering stop when in the top of the 6th Dontrelle was hit on the leg by a jimmy Rollins line drive, the once very exciting and very hopeful day crashed into a bleak hault as the sound of Dontrelle's left shin cracking paralyzed everyone in the stadium, he had to be rushed to the ER where his diagnosis was given a fracture left shin the doctor says that he will not be able to play for at least 2 months. After this bleak moment Sergio Mitre took the mount for the first time this season where he only surrendered one hit in one inning, Miguel Cabrera managed to extend the lead in the top of the 9th with a solo home-run, and Kevin Gregg once again was lights out.

Slumbering Ramirez Wakes Up

JacobsHomers.jpgHanleyslide.jpg

Left: Josh Willingham homers of Carlos Carrasco. Right: Hanley slides under the tag at home.

Game Overview

The offense seems to have finally gotten the jolt they needed to start producing, more importantly Hanley Ramirez finally got his first hit of the season after a 4 game hit less streak, Scott Olsen showed great dominance and amazing poise in his first start even though he was hit hard in the 7th inning, once again both Lindstrom and Gregg were outstanding. On the offensive side both Cabrera and Willingham connected their second homerun of the season while Hanley got his first, overall it was a very entertaining game and the offense waking up can only mean good things are coming for the Marlins.

Bottom: Jimmy Rollins homers of Ricky Nolasco.

Game Overview

Late inning losses are always though to swallow, specially when you have been trailing for the whole game and managed to tie it late in the game, Ricky Nolasco's second start of the season wasn't bad, he had a bit of control issues but managed to get out of jams, he made a couple of mistake pitches that the Phillies didn't pardon, but overall it wasn't a bad outing, the offense was pretty locked in on Hamels, and managed to hit him well except for the fact that they hit the ball right at people, the Phillies manged to run all over Barrett tonight, that needs to be improved upon.

Yet another heartbreaking loss in the road trip the Marlins where stepping up big time early in the game producing runs and defending well, sadly the pitching couldn't stop the Brewer's powerful offense, at the the Fish got an extra inning loss after Kevin Gregg surrender 3 runs in the bottom of teh 10th inning.

Late Inning Rally Blemishes A Great Start

Game Overview

Today the Marlins losing streak was extended to 3 games in what can only be called a horrible heartbreak game, Sergio Mitre made his first appearance as a starter this season and he was managing well he was almost coasting through the Brewers lineup, that was until the 8th inning where he was rocked by the offensive power of the Brewers lineup, when the dust settled after the 8th the Marlins were down 6-2 after being up 2-1 for most of the game.

Brewers Dominate Marlins Yet Again

Cabrerahomers-2.jpg

Braunhomers.jpg

Top: Miguel Cabrera homers.

Bottom: Ryan Braun homers off Anibal Sanchez

Game Overview

The team's poor performance during this leg of the road trip has brought up many questions about the rotation and the bullpen, the main one being without Dontrelle for 2 months who is going to assume the role of ace in the team it was believed that Anibal Sanchez would but after today's poor performance that might not be so, logically looking at the situation it isn't an easy one currently the most experienced pitcher in the rotation is Dave Bush however he has only pitched 2 games for the Marlins and he doesn't seem fitted for the ace position, but on the other hand the second most experienced pitcher in the rotation would be Scott Olsen which is no better choice. The team's management will have to resolve this situation swiftly before the team takes more beatings.

on your pregame thing, where you have the team backgrounds, the black text is kinda hard to read, you should maybe fill a layer over the team background with black, and then lower the opacity and make the text white, just a suggestion maybe you can try it out and see how it looks, just it's hard to read the black text sometimes

Marlins Snap 4 Game Losing Streak

CabsDoubles.jpg

Top: Miguel Cabrera slides under the tag for a double.

Bottom: Edgar Renteria gets his bat sawed off by Olsen.

Game Overview

The Marlins were finally able to snap that 4 game losing streak against the ever difficult Atlanta Braves, Scott Olsen was wonderful in the mount for the Fish as he is the first Marlins pitcher to record a complete game this season. It seems as if both Hanley and Miguel are finally getting hot at the plate and are knocking the stitches out of the baseball, Willingham is cooling off a bit, but he is still hitting well, Jeremy Hermida is on a tear as of late, and center fielder Franklin Gutierrez has struggle a bit on the plate.

Chipperscores.jpg

Willlinghamhomers.jpg

Top: Chipper Jones Score on a Kelly Johnson single.

Bottom: Josh Willingham takes Smoltz out of the yard to shorten the lead.

Game Overview

Today's Marlins loss can only be attributed to one thing, lack of clutch, the Marlins had more than enough opportunities to come back and tie the game but they were not able to hit Smoltz in those crucial time, the Marlins left runners in second and third in the 6th inning, they also left the bases loaded in the 8th. Ricky Nolasco had a some control issues today and it showed as he had to be taken out after just 5 innings. The Marlins haven't been able to find their stride this season they have not been able to string together some victories, it seems as if for every step forward the team takes they take two backwards.
