emanuelsaavedra
I just read in mlb.com that the white sox had traded garland for cabrera of the angles. I personally think that it was a bad decision. I know that you could not rely on juan uribe as a shortstop, but garland and buherle are the two guys in that rotation that you do not want to mess around with. Garland is a proven young pitcher, if you wanted to trade pitchers, the white sox should have traded contreras or vasquez (im a contreras fan). Not garland, he was the core of that rotation for the future.
Totte
I think it was a steal for the Angels. Cabrera is good with his glove and so-so with his bat. Just like in Boston, I don't think the climate is something that works out in his favor (at least not offensively). He's a wicked upgrade over Uribe who'll likely be shipped out of town. Garland is gonna be a total stud for the Angels. His sinking fastballs gonna put some heat on the M's, A's, and Rangers batters. I give the Angels :wtg: for this one

mrmet06
Can you say "Scott Kazmir"? The end result may not be as bad as getting Zambrano, but letting go of Garland for, in my opinion, lesser talent, may very well clinch another uneventful season for the ChiSox

angryrat
I think you guys are forgetting Garland's 10-13 season in 2007 and mistaking that for what he did in 2005. I'd be lying if I said I am happy to see him shipped off, but I did feel the Sox desperately needed an upgrade in the middle infield, and we have been trying to find room for a few young starters for some time. In regards to "Why Garland and not Contreras?"... Well, simply put, Garland has alot more trade value. He's 28 versus 36-40, and still has alot of upside. The resigning of Juan "Swing at Everything" Uribe, was the most dissapointing thing I had heard in the last few months. I was so bummed when they did that.... this trade makes me estatic. I don't care if Cabrera bats .250 like Uribe did, from what I understand and make of his stats... he doesn't strike out, and so long as we have someone putting the ball in play... it's an upgrade. But yeah I don't like like the trade form a White Soxs point of view...Cabrera is a FA at the end of the season and has a career OBP of .321. If they were going to move Garland, move him for prospects. Plus the Angels have Brandon Wood. Or Miguel Cabrera :mwha:
ro290190
It really does free up the Angles to take a shot at M.Cabrera, with their surplus of pitching they could trade Jeff Weaver,Wood and another prospect for Miguel

Garland's record doesn't mean anything, he was on a bad team. He had a 4.23 ERA (AL average: 4.63) and a 1.32 WHIP (AL average: 1.41). He makes a good #3-#4. By no means an ace but he's an above average pitcher. Meanwhile, Orlando Cabrera has a career line of .273/.321/.403/.723...below average MLB SS with the bat, and although he's above average with the glove, he's not that special. And the fact that he's a FA at the end of the season really hurts.

Either way, I doubt the Angels are done

cfcdw29
i don't think that brandon wood will be moving to SS, as the angels already have erick aybar and sean rodriguez playing there. i think this trade is just a prelimilary step to free up third base (although i don't know what's going to happen to chone figgins) to get miguel cabrera. although i was really hoping to see either LA team get arod, cabrera's okay i guess. but GARLAND? i mean this guy isn't even that great of a pitcher, and they already have a surplus of pitching competing for the last two spots in the rotation (moseley, santana, saunders, and nick adenhart in a few years)

abc006
WOW JOE TORRE MANAGING A POWERFUL MVP TYPE THIRD BASEMAN, THATS A GREAT IDEA!Uhh... yeah. A-Rod did sorta win the MVP. You know, like being the best player in the league. So yeah, I think that would be a good idea. I mean, being the best player is good, right? angryrat
All in all, the White Sox can win without Big Jon. They have young pitching waiting for opportunities. I'll miss him, but the Sox needed a good SS pretty desperately, and Ken Williams obviously saw Cabrera as the best opportunity to upgrade at the position, especially since Garland was going to walk after this season, anyways. emanuelsaavedra
i cant believe you guys, garland not good??? !@#$@%^$# The guy is a great pitcher, if you dont believe me, check his stats over the past three years, hes won 46 games!! thats about 15 a year!! Not a lot of pitchers can do that. Besides, he won all those games with not a great team. He is going to be a scary pitcher with a team that can give him some run support like the angels. Hey i know another trade the angles should do, get kendry morales the hell out of LA!! Hes too good to be stuck in AAA. trade him to the white sox, they need bats and the angels need pitching.
