BigPaPa
i hear from ppl who drive sticks they are alot of fun however my experiance driving stick consisted of stalling and rolling down a hill backwards nealry killing myself in the process so for the safety of my life and anyone who happens to be riding with me auto all the way
rambo
It's funny that this thread appeared here today. I just passed my test for an automatic licence. I live in one of the bigger cities in Australia, and although it's not quite as big as some of your cities, it is a pain driving manual (stick-shift) as you have to stop and start constantly. I started learning on a manual, but I was stalling the thing every five seconds. I know that manual is more fun but I feel more confident driving an auto. Homer
I'm turing 16 in a month and will be driving soon. I'll be driving automatic. When you live in the city, your an idiot if you drive manual. You can't go 10 feet without starting and stopping. Actually, I'm still going to be taking the ferry, bus, and subway because it's quicker. actually, i just know how to drive a manual, unlike a lot of people. it's not something you can just jump right into and expect to be able to do it properly after a month. i've lived in the busiest of cities all my life. never had a problem. i guess you would be an idiot to drive a manual in busy traffic if you didn't know what you were doing. but who's fault is that? we should add manuals to the list of man law :)
RaptorQuiz
Automatic. It's called "progress," people: Live with it. As my girlfriend once said, when this debate came up with some of my other friends: "A real man needs a free hand when he's driving." You could try to interpret that as a sexual comment... but I think she really meant so I can demasculate myself further by holding her hand while I drive. lol. Manual transmissions are for those men that feel they have something to compensate for.

Homer
eh...not too much progress. once they start making them fly, then you'll get my attention. ever drive a classic muscle car? not the same if it's an automatic. but as far as your gf's comments....if she is meaning the former, she's a keeper if she means the ladder, it's over and honestly, i've had this discussion many times before too. and people always bring up the compensation thingy mabob...and i gotta say. i honestly think it's because inside, most guys think it'd be cool to be race car drivers. Kccitystar
Driving really is the only thing you're supposed to be doing when operating an automobile. Anything else can be accomplished between shifts when you're using a stick shift, or you should pull over. Another reason I enjoy driving a stick, most people here in the US won't ask you to borrow your car.
hiheat32
Manual transmissions are for those men that feel they have something to compensate for. actually, my automatic transmission is compensating for the fact that my car would be more feminine than it already is with automatic. im not saying its a girl car, but its not the manliest car on the road: imagine this with a bra on it with automatic transmission... ...then imagine it with a stick it goes from chick car to rally car in my opinion.
