Dan
Within the next two weeks I will be purchasing a new gaming system - an upgrade from a PS2, the only "real" console I ever owned. I've already ruled out the Wii as I feel game developers aren't putting enough effort into its games and it will take a while for the interactive thing to kick in. So it's down to the PS3 and the 360. Right now I have an old 20" tube/console tv (you know, the ones stuck inside those wooden boxes). My parents bought a 42" Polaroid and I'll be getting that on Christmas. But for now.... PS3: Pros Built-in WiFi Free Online Play Blu-ray (5 free [old] movies from Circuit City with purchase) I'm used to the PS3's controller layout 40-gig HD (only model I would consider getting) PS3: Cons $100 more No Halo (for now, anyway - is there an equal or better game?) 720p resolution (my new TV will be 720p so that may not be a problem) 360: Pros $100 less Halo 1080p resolution (may not make a difference with the 720p tv) 360: Cons Unfamiliar controller layout for me No built-in WiFi Costs extra for online play Hardware problems seem common I don't know that I'd do much online play, though if it's free and built-in, I'd probably take a shot at it. I think GH3 is out for both (I don't have enough people for RockBand usually). Not sure how bad the hardware failures are for the 360, and if I don't play online much, the WiFi/online play costs won't matter much. What should I do? The extra $100 for a PS3 is OK with me as long as I'm convinced it's worth it. -dan
pujols
Coming from a BIG PS2 fan, I say that the 360 is better. You'll get used to the Controller layout easily. And there really isn't as many hardware problems as people seem to think, I've had my 360 almost a year now and it still runs perfect. Also, the 360 has alot more "must have" games. SESbb30
well, i guess it depends on what you're going to do with it. if you're gonna play online frequently, i say 100 bucks more will pay off in the long run. for the cons, you can add the loudness of the 360's, some are friggin loud. BigRog
Bigger library for xbox 360. your paying for live but your getting alot in return (50 dollars gets your 13 months). any old receiver can connect to the usb port on it (or you can do what i did and spend 100 on the wireless adapter) kraw who owns both systems swears up and down that 360 is better, and kraw's word is god law

Dan
Yeah, seems that the 360 has more games since it was out earlier and more widely accepted. My house (and the four houses around me, for that matter) is wireless, so I guess I have to get some sort of wireless adapter for the 360 then, if I want to go online? Do they sell PS2-style controllers for the 360?

BigRog
i dont believe so. Dan, when i got my xbox 3 yrs ago i was an avid ps2 user. It took me a week tops to get used to the xbox controller. Its the same controller as 360. IM constantly going back and forth between ps2, xbox, and xbox 360 and its not tough at all
SESbb30
you dont have to go wireless, just get a crossover cable and plug it in to the router.

Kccitystar
I'm kidding. In terms of shooters, there's Call of Duty 4 and good old Resistance: Fall of Man. The PS3 gives you: A Blu-Ray player which can play HD movies on your Polaroid TV A familiar controller layout which will include rumble by Spring of 08 A promising game lineup with sequels and familiar titles from the PS2 library (MGS4, FFXIII to name a few) Playstation Store which allows you to buy PSOne titles as well as small games Playstation Home (think a 3D version of MySpace or Second Life on steroids) Folding At Home (help cure cancer) Enough Said. Now that Sony has marketed the PS3 properly and has just now started off at a buyer's price, it's a great time to be a PS3 owner, especially when its major franchises should be landing on store shelves this coming year. The games are here, and more heavy hitters are on the way. A lot of people like to give the PS3 heat for a sluggish start, but let's be serious, the 360 sucked in its first year, too. If you want to take this position, at least have the decency to wait until the end of 2008.

wrigleyville33
well the orig. xbox controller is alot different from the 360 one... and many of my friends that use to have a ps2 prefer the 360 controller much more, its just a whole lot more confortable

Here is something to think about the PS3's controller has a built in battery that can not be replaced. My controller that was bought on release day no longer hold a charge for that long. And consider I only use the PS3 maybe once a month so it is not from a lot of use If you pay the electric bill, the PS3 uses more power than god, I can see my meter spin like a top when the PS3 is turned on
