wikitundra
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada finally got his wish for a change of scenery, as he was traded to the Houston Astros on Wednesday. In return for the four-time All-Star, the Orioles will get outfielder Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and third baseman Michael Costanzo. The blockbuster trade was first reported by The Baltimore Sun. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3151849

KillerBs
I keep telling myself that this is a nightmare and I will wake up soon. If it isn't a dream, I am requesting Sean O's permission to steal his signature with a slight change. Fire Ed. Now.

KillerBs
I don't understand it, I just don't understand. It makes no sense! What in the world? I am now telling myself that Ed Wade has found someone who is stupid enough to trade a legitimate number two starter for Tejada. That must be it. It has to be or I am going to shoot myself. Edit: Fixed a typo

jonthefon
**** the what? Please, let this be a joke and include Erik Bedard in it as well. I would've given four players AT MOST in the trade, and none of them would include Albers, Sarfarte or Troy Patton. He WAS freaking untouchable. I thought the trade would be a Scott, Burke and scrub (possibly Costanzo) deal, but this is making me cry (as well as making me vomit.)

Sean O
All yours KB, Fire Ed is a go. I guess I need to be more familiar with the Astros farm system. I didn't think anyone involved was a top top prospect. Still, it's just the NL Central....
AstroEric
Patton was the top prospect in an already empty farm system. Now we essentially have...no one.
Sean O
But, ok, according to BA.com's top 10 list from November 26th, Patton is third, and Costanzo is 6th. Scott has had one good year in short duty, and was flipped at the height of his value since he's already 30. Then you threw in 3 no names on top of it. All for a player who is up for a major rebound, going to the weaker league's weakest division in a park which should suit him to a T.
AstroEric
Well, Towles isn't considered so much a member of the farm system anymore because he's going to be the majority starting catcher next year. Same with Bourn, who will start in center, barring a magical reawakening of Reggie Abercrombie's bat. And I forgot about Paulino. Everyone down from him on the list that's still around isn't all that great. The biggest issue here is that we have one consistent pitcher in our rotation, and that's it. I think that everyone in Astros had invested in Albers and Patton as potential in-house solutions, whereas now, our rotation (with the predicted FA signing) will look like this: Roy Oswalt Jon Lieber (workable) Woody Williams (synonymous with "old" -- "Man, your grandma is Woody Williams as hell!") Brandon Backe (coming off of surgery -- hasn't pitched in two years) Wandy Rodriguez (Good at home, abysmal on the road) Chris Sampson (More on him in a second) In addition, for a team that was stressing defense and speed over everything else, losing Everett's superior range and runs saved for Tejada (whose defense is apparently declining) means that someone like Sampson (who thrived when Everett was plugging the holes in the left side of the infield) won't do as well. The other aspect of the rotation issues is that now that we've traded all of our worthwhile pieces, how will we get any quality pitching, which was supposedly the main goal of the off-season? DannyMac910
I have a strange felling that Miguel Tejada is going to put up MVP type numbers, just because everyone thinks this is a bad trade. Not saying you guy are wrong, but whenever someone seems to make a bad trade, it usually turns out good for them.
MrDudleyDoWright
I think it's a good trade for Houston, But not Baltimore

DoubleD
barring a magical reawakening of Reggie Abercrombie's bat. He did hit a 493 ft HR in 2006 He also hit a 506 ft hr in the 2005 minor league HR derby But yeah outside of that don't expect anything from him. Oh haha last year, he swung at a ball that hit the ground before it even reached the plate in KC. It was funny.

jonthefon
I stuck through the doldrums of the last two years and never once did I think about not being an Astros fan. But this trade makes me seriously doubt if I want to be a 'Stros fan in the future.
angryrat
Getting a .300 hitter who can hit 20+ homers at SS, and still play good defense. Definetly something to cry over.
