ksig24
Hows it going BigRog? Thanks for responding! Yup, yet to install it though. What should my system requirements be? I have bot a PC and a MacBook Pro.
fred13
I'm not sure if MVP runs on Mac, and the majority of people here play it on PC. Since its such an old game, the system requirements aren't that high, however, some mods, mainly any 2X Uniforms and stadiums will run much smoother if you have a faster computer or a high end video card. That being said, I have an on-board video card and I'm still able to run most things. Its Big O's Fenway that causes the most problems for people with low-end video cards, but his 'lite' version fixes that. To get started with mods, I'd suggest starting with the 07 mod, and then any of the latest updated rosters. There are 3 main rosters on this site, Ultimate Rosters by Totte, kgbaseball's roster overhaul, and SwinginSoriano's roster update. SS's update is only for major league players and does not include all the minor leaguers like kg's and Totte's. Don't bother starting a forum asking what the difference between the 2 is, as its been done countless times before and the moderators here won't like it. The best thing to do is just download them both, and see which one you like better for yourself. After you've got the 07 mod and updated rosters, its pretty much up to you to customize the rest of the game to suit your needs. Take some time to go through the downloads section, if there's something you like, try it out. I'd also recommend joining in on discussions in the forums (just don't spam ) read the forum/site rules and get acquainted with them. I first joined this site almost two years ago, and now cannot go a day without seeing whats going on in the forums. Also, check out the Creative Discussion forum if your interested in graphic design. There are some great photoshop artists here who can help you if your want to learn new things. Good Luck, and enjoy your time here! ;)
xiberger
Be sure to check out the FAQ thread, which contains a lot of useful information on modding.
JoeRudi26
Welcome to the site, ksig. fred gives some good advice, there's a ton of people here that are extremely helpful. Ask away. :)
ksig24
Thanks fellas! I will install my game and then look into the suggestions you provided me. It seems like there is just so much to go over. I'm smart, but not too savvy when it comes to file overwriting and replacement. So I ask that you guys bear with me and I am confident I will fit in as a nice part of the team in time. EH

ksig24
I went through the FAQ before I even began this thread. It just seems pretty foreign to me at this time. I do not know what a lot of the utilities are and I don't want to sound morose, but I'm new. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will take the information provided and put it to use immediately. Thanks
MarkB
If you have any problems, post them here and we'll do our best to help out. There's a good chance we've seen a lot of the questions you may have before, so troubleshooting shouldn't be too much of an issues. Also, if you find anything difficult to understand in the FAQ thread, let me know. I've got quite a few updates to make to that thread, so might as well do it all in one shot. I'm just trying to find the time to update it.
fred13
Excellent post Fred, thanks. :yeah: np, just helping out Another thing I forgot to mention, is that for anything and everything you download, make sure you do two things: 1) read the 'read me' files carefully. These are detailed instructions on what you need to do to install the mod. 2) back-up whatever files you are replacing. One thing I did, and a suggestion I'll make, is when you finish installing the default game, copy the entire MVP Baseball 2005 folder to a separate drive, or just a different place on your current hard-drive. That way, if one of your mods crashes the game, you can just copy the default file back in.
ksig24
Ok great, I guess I will just use this thread for all my questions and concerns. First of all I have some basic questions as I do not really know what has been done to the game by the mods. Does the game play different? I noticed some different camera angles on YouTube and I thought that was awesome. Is the player progression the same or did someone write in a new code that changes this? I also noticed different pitcher meters and game displays, from Fox to ESPN. Is this also done by mods? I am currently installing the game on my PC, do I need to have the disks ready at all times or does it install directly to my HD and I can execute it from there? Thanks
pujols
You can download different camera angels, and a new player progression mod. Yes, the displays are done by mods, and you need the discs to play it.

ronmexico
A Macbook pro is good enough to run it well, considering I run it on integrated graphics on a Blackbook. This is obviously if you have boot camp running XP, and maybe Vista, never really had good success with that. Remember to download NHC cause XP underclocks it to 1 GHZ. ksig24
Ron, I have never used the other side of my Mac. Is it easy? I was just thinking about installing it on my old desktop which has a pretty decent video card and I think it has a 1.3 GHZ processor. Once I get dialed in I will probably put in on the Mac, but for now I will just idle around on the PC. Man, there is a lot to do to get up to speed. I am stoked! ronmexico
I'd recommend it on the Pro cause it has a 2.16ghz processor (at least, depending on when you got it). It also has a good enough video card to handle pretty much any mod you throw at it. If you have Leopard, you can install boot camp, because they took away the licensing for it on Tiger, though I'm sure a resourceful fella can still find somewhere to download it It's quite easy, it's an automated process, you just punch in yes, no (in your case yes) whenever it asks and then burn drivers for what I presume is XP (it's an option it will give you in the installer) and then just let it take over. Soon enough you'll be done and have a normal copy of Windows running on your Mac.

ronmexico
Are you running Leopard or Tiger? 10.5 or 10.4?
ksig24
I am running Tiger, but I was referring to the questions I asked about what the mods have done to this game as a whole. Does the game play different..etc. Thanks
ronmexico
It does indeed play different. They're quite easy to install though, as most come with automated installers, and the rest have good readmes attached to them. I would recommend downloading MVP '07 mod, which is a total conversion mod, including rosters, uniforms, ball physics, progression of players, along with much more such as stadiums. MVP 07 comes with an automated installer, and there are other project such as Total Classics where you can relive years like 1967, 1994 (a seperate project) and others such as MVP Caribe which re-does Latin Winterball teams from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela (I'm almost positive that's it exactly).
