sfgiantsflgators
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hI4uzKn...q0RpZgD8U2EGA00 HAYDEN, Idaho (AP) — A man who believed he bore the "mark of the beast" used a circular saw to cut off one hand, then he cooked it in the microwave and called 911, authorities said. The man, in his mid-20s, was calm when Kootenai County sheriff's deputies arrived Saturday in this northern Idaho town. He was in protective custody in the mental health unit of Kootenai Medical Center. "It had been somewhat cooked by the time the deputy arrived," sheriff's Capt. Ben Wolfinger said. "He put a tourniquet on his arm before, so he didn't bleed to death. That kind of mental illness is just sad." It was not immediately clear whether the man has a history of mental illness. Hospital spokeswoman Lisa Johnson would not say whether an attempt was made to reattach the hand, citing patient confidentiality. The Book of Revelation in the New Testament contains a passage in which an angel is quoted as saying: "If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, he, too, will drink the wine of God's fury." The book of Matthew also contains the passage: "And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for you whole body to do into hell." Wolfinger said he didn't know which hand was amputated.
BigRog
Was this guy Bruce Campbell in The Evil Dead 2? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKHBOCoqhfE The only thing he is missing is the chainsaw that he attaches to his hand after he chops it off. Yankee4Life
Perhaps I should clarify. There's nothing wrong with religious people. But there is something wrong with religious zealots. "Why'd you shoot those 15 people?" "Because God told it to me when I saw the image of him on my English muffin this morning" Don't tell me you never read about nuts like that. Sure, a lot of crimes committed have nothing to do with religion, but many are. Too many.

Padres67
Taken out of context-Yes many are done by Islamo fascists every day-but "true" changed believers in jesus Christ do not do these kinds of things. It is funny if you guys made racist comments about blacks or gays you would get banned-but a bible believer who has obvious mental issues is fair game and is put in the "religious zealot". You guys need to be consistent and stop the racism against Christians.
seanzarelli
There was a guy about 200 miles from me the other day that murdered his ex-girlfriend and then started cooking her body parts. While he was cooking them, he called 911 and told them what he was doing. When police showed up, there was what seemed to be an ear boiling on the stove and a fork sticking out a piece of human flesh on the table. Then a detective asked him why he did it, and he said, "God told me to," and then the detective asked him what did he tell God. I laughed out loud when I heard what the detective asked him. There have been plenty of Christian fascists that have performed actions along the same lines of what some "Islamic fundamentalists", as they are known, have done in the past. Does Timothy McVeigh ring any bells? He was Roman Catholic and was the man behind the deadliest incident of domestic terrorism in the United States. By your reasoning, the same belief in any religious leader or "God" could exclude any religion, including Islam, from the acts you've described. If a person has "true" belief in their chosen God, then they will not do such things - but who is to say who has true belief and who doesn't? Isn't that the job of the same God at the centre of the discussion, and not any of us?

BigPaPa
Not a true ChristianAnd Islamic Scholars have been saying for a long time that terrorist acts are not only not a part of their religion but are denounced in principal by their religion. That doesn't stop fundamentalists from bombing things under the flag of Islam. If you asked them they would call themselves "true" muslims. The Bible is pretty clear that killing people is wrong but Christian fundamentalists kill over abortion among other things. Their are crazy and evil people in every religion. Its all in the eye of the beholder. This However: Taken out of context-Yes many are done by Islamo fascists every day-but "true" changed believers in jesus Christ do not do these kinds of things. KillerBs
11215, I think you are getting a little too worked up over this. While he could have worded his post better, he did clarify what he meant. I think we can all agree there have been radicals an extremists in every religion, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity alike. There have also been extreme atheists and agnostics. And, I think we can all agree that these people do nothing to further the their cause. This is what I meant, and I am glad you understood what I was trying to say KillerB's. And I am not trying to point the finger at one particular group of religious person. I didn't just say only the Christians do this, or only the Jews or only the Islamic. All I said was the first comment that I thought of when I read this, that it figured to me that religion had something to do with this guy doing something stupid like this. How many times have we turned on the local or national news and they have caught some guy doing something really stupid and all his excuse was "God told me to do it" or "I had a message from God" or "it was God's will that I did this", which for him would explain the senseless slaughter that he just did to people? Again, let me again say that I do not blame everything bad that happens in this world on religion. But it is these kind of whacked out things that you read about in the news and you can take it to the bank that a religious nut had something to do with it. Don't ever become Lawyers-logic alludes you. I'd love to know the source and context of this post, because the only person who has mentioned anything about "blacks" or black women is yourself. Also, as kraw alluded to, I'm sure everyone is thrilled when they read about children being murdered. Once again you are being racists by putting religious people as the reason for these things. I am offended and am asking you to stop kindly-if you cant do that when I am offended then I truly feel sorry for you. You would not use the n word on here-so don't use "religious people" in the same manner-shame on you. Let's see, man shouts "Fire!" in a crowded theatre, then wonders why everyone panics. Just because you're offended doesn't mean that you shouldn't apply logic to your reasoning. At this point, asking others to stop posting their opinions because they offend you is like starting a fight, losing badly, then pleading with your counterpart to stop beating you up. Is A. Racist in its own right by saying the Islamics do bad things, but Christians do not. B. Ignorant because there is no such thing as an "Islamo Facist" You can be fascist, meaning your country is your religion and you don't believe in religion as a whole, Or you can be Islamic but you cant be both. I guess posts like this one by BigPaPa offend you also, probably because it is true and doesn't conform to the "The Bible is right and all your native culture is wrong" mindset. NYM
If you think about it religion causes more harm then good. I wonder what the world would be like if everyone were atheists. I'm sure it would be a somewhat less violence place.
Yankee4Life
If you think about it religion causes more harm then good. Religion itself should not cause any harm. Religion is worshiping a higher being than yourself be it God, Budda, etc, etc. It is the people that cause the problem. Like I said in a previous post, I'm Roman Catholic. That's how I was raised and that's how it will be. I don't think that religion is better or worse than any other religion out there. Religious zealots are found in every religion. There's always a nut or two that thinks because it is there religion it is the best one. And again, no religion is exempt. I wonder what the world would be like if everyone were atheists. I'm sure it would be a somewhat less violence place. Probably the same kind of fighting and violence would take place. Someone would think they are "better atheists" than someone else and then there would be fighting because someone would accuse someone else of believing in God so they'd kill them for that. KillerBs
If you think about it religion causes more harm then good. I wonder what the world would be like if everyone were atheists. I'm sure it would be a somewhat less violence place. I'm not so sure... While religion has caused a lot of strife over the years, it was primarily because bigots and morons were major voices in religion, on all sides. They thought that because someone else believed something different, that it was ok to kill them. They hated anyone who was different. I don't think your comment about religion causing more harm than good is accurate. Religion is not to blame. People are. Religion does no more and no less harm than the people who claim it do. Religion is nothing more than what the people who claim it are. I don't see what is wrong with presenting your case for your beliefs. Show them evidence, tell them why you believe it, try to change their mind. Then, let them make their own decision. If they don't change their mind, there is nothing you can do. If people would stop ramming their beliefs down everyone else's throats, then the whole world would be less confrontational, and therefore, better. Now, religion in this post is being used as what one would classify as non-radical/fanatical/extremist religions. Radical Muslims and Christians do a lot of things in the name of religion that are horrible, horrible things. I see no difference between Vernon Howell and bin Laden. Both were extremist murderers.
