krawhitham
Once again you are being racists by putting religious people as the reason for these things. So religion is divided by race?
MarkB
I'm not so sure... While religion has caused a lot of strife over the years, it was primarily because bigots and morons were major voices in religion, on all sides. They thought that because someone else believed something different, that it was ok to kill them. They hated anyone who was different. I don't think your comment about religion causing more harm than good is accurate. Religion is not to blame. People are. Religion does no more and no less harm than the people who claim it do. Religion is nothing more than what the people who claim it are. I don't see what is wrong with presenting your case for your beliefs. Show them evidence, tell them why you believe it, try to change their mind. Then, let them make their own decision. If they don't change their mind, there is nothing you can do. If people would stop ramming their beliefs down everyone else's throats, then the whole world would be less confrontational, and therefore, better. Now, religion in this post is being used as what one would classify as non-radical/fanatical/extremist religions. Radical Muslims and Christians do a lot of things in the name of religion that are horrible, horrible things. I see no difference between Vernon Howell and bin Laden. Both were extremist murderers. Very good post, KillerBs. :wtg:

NYM
Let me restate that to make it more clear. Religion itself is good. It's just that people who follow there religion, think that there religion is superior to another's. Also, there are extremists, who feel the need to do stuff because their god told them too. This "stuff" can be anything from suicide bombs to microwaving your arm in a microwave. September 11 pilots believing they were doing the right thing because they would be rewarded by god. Crusades? Religion in theory is good, but humans find ways to make it evil or in some cases use it as an excuse. It's like communism in a way. The general concept was good. It wasn't mean to harm anybody, but to make the lives of people better. Communism though became corrupt, like religious believers, and ended up doing more harm then good. Yankee4Life
Of course, on the other hand, there is this here article. This article is violence-free. The image of Jesus has been reported as to being seen on a tree, in a bathroom and on a grilled ham and cheese sandwich.

Yes, but if people did not have religion, they would just come up with something else to kill people over. It's human nature, sadly. We have race, nationality, political views, anything. Think of anything even slightly controversial, and I guarantee there is someone out there who is willing to kill over it.
sdoyle7798
Taken out of context-Yes many are done by Islamo fascists every day-but "true" changed believers in jesus Christ do not do these kinds of things. It is funny if you guys made racist comments about blacks or gays you would get banned-but a bible believer who has obvious mental issues is fair game and is put in the "religious zealot". You guys need to be consistent and stop the racism against Christians. By definition, I don’t think intolerance against religion is racism, its bigotry. Still, that isn’t what happened in this thread. There have been a lot of documented cases of people that did something evil or crazy, and said their God told them to (here is a link to a website with some of those cases). I also agree that most religious people are not crazy, and not all crazy people are religious. I think everyone in this thread is on that same page. A lady was arrested yesterday when the murdered, decomposing bodies of her children were found in her apartment. By your logic many black women commit these crimes. and if she said God told her then you guys would really be happy. The way you guys think baffles me to say the least. Don't ever become Lawyers-logic alludes you. WOW! Just, wow! Logic alludes US? You used a sample size of one. Here is my rebuttal to that… Susan Smith. Once again you are being racists by putting religious people as the reason for these things. I am offended and am asking you to stop kindly-if you cant do that when I am offended then I truly feel sorry for you. You would not use the n word on here-so don't use "religious people" in the same manner-shame on you. Again, you can’t be racist against a religion, only bigoted, and that isn’t happening here. NO ONE said “Religious people are all crazy!!!†They said “There are crazy people that say God made them do it.†There is a big difference.
seanzarelli
They said “There are crazy people that say God made them do it.†But what do you say back to God when he tells you to do something crazy like that? Do you just say, "Okay God, I'll do that." ?

I honestly don't know what I would say in that case. I do know that God would not tell me to kill in His name. Now, if something went wrong in my head, who knows?
