BigPaPa
bad move. really really bad. Since when is making an extra 3,6 million a year a bad move. Might not sound as nice but if 3.6 million dollars lets them sign, or resign a player that could be key to them Im all for it. Its more about what goes on inside the stadium than what the name plate on the outside reads.

philthepat
There are some really bad company owned stadium names around the world... this one perhaps tops the lot of em in crappyness Nice earner tho.. cant deny that
BigPaPa
Wow.... Then they are going to re-name Citi Field to Office Depo Stadium That would require the mets and Citi Bank to agree to break the contract they already signed for naming rights. MrDudleyDoWright
That would require the mets and Citi Bank to agree to break the contract they already signed for naming rights. Yes, i know, my statement was a joke
mrmet06
I think we should all get together and burn every commercially-named stadium to the ground, INCLUDING Citi Field (long live Shea). Who's game?

RaptorQuiz
When Anheuser Busch (the man, then-owner of the company) purchased the Cardinals in 1953, he planned to rename "Sportsman's Park" to "Budweiser Stadium." There was a public outcry, and "Busch Stadium" was used instead. The following year, A.B. unveiled a new beer: Busch Bavarian beer (now, simply 'Busch.') Gotta love the craftsmanship. If the public doesn't want you to name your stadium after a beer... just use a different name, then wait a year, and make a NEW beer with that name. And now, 55 years later, it's still Busch Stadium, although we're on the third incarnation of it. There's today's history/useless-trivia lesson. kcksave72
You'll be pretty short on stadiums if you burn all the corporate named ones to the ground. Alot of them I don't mind. I'm from Pittsburgh, Mellon Arena (often called the Igloo), Heinz Field, and PNC Park all roll off the tongue well. And we can use all the money we can get. But things like "Network Associates Coliseum" or even "Citizen's Bank Park" The Bank doesn't have to be there. It isn't "PNC Bank Park" or "Mellon Bank (now financial) Arena". But that's sports these days.
AstroEric
No, the worst is when you name a ballpark that is already shaped like a juice box "Minute Maid Park." Actually, what's worse than that is having a stadium named after the bankrupt figurehead of corporate America attempting to say "**** you" to accountability and having to subsequently pay them millions to break the contract to rename the juice box-shaped stadium "Minute Maid Park." triberocks4
Best case scenario: We give it a catchy nickname like we did to Quicken Loans Arena, aka "The Q". As for right now, I'm too emotionally attached to Jacobs Field, so I'm calling it its original name.
fred13
Rogers Centre went through the same thing. Everyone I know still calls it the Skydome though. (Although that might be because they're hockey fans and still haven't caught on to the name change).
scotty2hotty
I think I know the worst stadium/arena name in professional sports: Jobing.com Arena, home of the Phoenix Coyotes. Horrible, just horrible!
