Buying New Computer

Hello everyone. Ive been thinking about buying a new computer but not sure where to start. I want to get a Dell Desktop for about $1,000 - 1,200. I was looking at the XPS Desktops but not sure if I should just get one that Dell has already built or customize my own. This computer will be used mainly for playing video games. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I just bought this about a month ago when I built my computer and this thing flies, great for gaming.

I'm am making a new uber geek system also. Does that system play any of the next gen games like crysis any good? Like full details and stuff? You know any good hard drives? I'm looking at the raptors but I dunno if they are worth it.

Ya, plays Crysis smooth but my 8500 gt dont really handle it very well, all low to mid settings. I was reading that the 8600's running in SLI is getting very close marks to some of the high end 8800's.

Check out that youtube video on that page for some more info.

The CPU itself is fine, but the rest of the system could be better. (Note - just saying "CPU" itself does not define a whole system.) The amount of memory is pretty low considering future standards, and it will run like a dog if you're planning on using Vista, the video card is in the budget range, although it does support DirectX 10, and if you're planning on using the system as a gaming machine, I'd probably go for a larger monitor. Also, 1 320GB HDD isn't going to be much when you're piling games on there as well as documents etc., and 7,200rpm isn't the best speed available, although it is definitely usable for day-to-day tasks, and the optical drives are...well, again, could do better.

You dont want 2 of those 8500's, I got the same card. And the 570i is pretty much obsolete at this point with them releasing new 780i boards. I would go with at least a 680i mobo.

I just called them and I switched out to a MSI K9A2 Platinum AMD 790X CrossFire Chipset DDR2/1066 4x(16X PCIE) SATA RAID MB w/GbLAN,USB2.0,IEEE1394,&7.1Audio and I got rid of one of the 8500's and just went to one NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB 16X PCI Express card. It only upped the price by about $40.
