This was already being discussed in the Official Cardinals thread (HERE) and in its own thread (HERE).

...but if you really just wanted the poll, alright...

As for answering your question: Now that I've found out that STL send Rolen to TOR and TOR send Glaus *and* cash (albeit less than $2M), it seems like the Cards really got the upper hand on TOR.

Blue Jays since Glaus is in steroids allegations.

...

Glaus also brings some baggage: according to a report in Sports Illustrated, he received shipments of nandrolone and testosterone in 2003 and 2004; both substances were on MLB's banned list at the time. But after an investigation, the Commissioner's Office announced there was "insufficient evidence" to warrant discipline of Glaus.

The Cardinals aren't exactly averse to doing business with players who have used performance-enhancing drugs. They signed pitchers Ryan Franklin and Troy Cate after each flunked the MLB steroids test, so why would anyone expect the Cardinals to become anti-juice crusaders now?

It seems to me that people outside of St. Louis still have a much higher opinion of Scott Rolen than people INSIDE St. Louis, who have been forced to watch his painful decline and outright refusal to act like an adult for the past 2 to 3 seasons.

I always loved Rolen, and I still cheered for and supported him, through his injuries, but his idiotic behavior really turned me (and many other St. Louisans) off to him in the '06 postseason.

True but he has defense, but is injured more than glaus, and i think that was astroturf and Glaus is much better offense. We have defense in Pujols,Ankiel,Ryan. We have offense, bu Glaus might help turning St Louis back around. And we're still waiting to have it offically announce as completed

As several articles state, for the teams, the trade is a wash, but both players are happy with the change of scenery. Jays get much needed defensive help at 3rd now that Eck is at SS, and Rolen gets to ditch La Russa. Glaus on the other hand, gets to play on natural grass and can provide protection for Pujols.

That gives us more offense and with Glaus getting 1 million less and us recieving 3 million we get some money. I hope we sign one more pitcher. I like Bartolo Colon. Since his coming from a injury he will be cheaper.

And Jogar, i feel the same way, but until them, we do need to talk some baseball.

The Jays are a farce. Riccardi has proven that he is not a good GM, yet there he is, still running this team because he worked under Billy Beane. A couple of years ago I had high hopes for this team. No more. I cannot root for a team, whose ownership and front office staff are constantly making this team worse.

What does this trade do for us?????? Nothing.

Scott Rolen has definitely been the better player over the careers of these two players.

With that said, Rolen appears to have a degenerative shoulder problem -- one that will probably prevent him from ever getting his power stroke back. At this point in his career, he doesn't really have much power -- not enough to warrant playing third. Of course, he also happens to be the best third baseman of this generation, so he's not moving anywhere.

On the surface, Glaus looks pretty superior to Rolen at this point moving forward, but Rolen's tremendous defense makes it a lot closer than I'm giving credit.

Increase IF defense while potentially not costing anything offensively?

Rolen is just a year removed from an .887 OPS, an OPS Glaus hasn't put up since 2004.

Not arguing that Rolen > Glaus offensively, Glaus has been a lot more consistent the past few years, but Rolen has the potential to put up higher numbers.

Rolen has the potential to put up higher numbers.

St. Louisans have been saying that since he collided with Hee Seop Choi on the base paths in 2005.

Honestly? I hope he does a great job in Toronto... but I also hope Glaus can show that a change-of-scenery will benefit him as well.

Last time rolen hit more than 20 homeruns was 2004, glaus hit 38 in 2006, and he was injusred partway because astroturf, and rolen has been injure so much because his shoulder,he'll never be a 30 homerun or 100 rbi guy again, but if Glaus is healthy, he can get 30 homeruns and 100 rbi's. And we need more offense not defense we are good at defense {ryan,pujols,ankiel, possibly rasmus, and kennedy, molina}

I wouldn't say Rolen "will never be a 30 hr/100 rbi guy again." But it seems that Rolen is farther removed from his offensive prime than Glaus.

But his injury was so major, and chronic... if it heals properly - he could return to his former stature... and that would seem to tip this trade in the favor of Toronto.

Gloss has nothing to fall back on though. He doesn't hit for average, Hes not an OBP guy, hes not an elite fielder, all he does (or did) is hit home runs. If his power numbers continue to drop he will be a nothing and rolen will still eb able to field and post good average numbers.

I do think the NL will lengthen Glosses Valuable time however.

Glaus actually walks about 80 times a year, with potential for 100+ walks, so I'd say his OBP should be fine. If he's healthy, he's basically a lock to put up an .850 OPS, which is even a little on the low side.

I like this deal alot better for the Cardinals than I do for the Jays. Glaus has a more favorable contract and is a better bet to be productive. If Rolen is fully healthy (which is a big if), he's the obviously the better player, but the question will be how long he stays healthy. The fact that the Jays will even send money to the Cards is just an added bonus for them.

Hey DJEagles... here's some interesting news...

Glaus Asked For Trade

According to Buster Olney, Troy Glaus told J.P. Ricciardi several months ago that he'd like to be traded. Apparently he really wanted to get away from artificial turf.

Olney says Ricciardi made no promises, and set about finding good value for Glaus. Glaus had wanted to play for St. Louis for years, and Scott Rolen's rift with Tony La Russa created an opportunity.

Hmmm... :chin:
