krawhitham
If possible you want a HD box without a built in DVR for best quality The DVR's compressing really kills image quality, I have TWC and all HD boxes are DVRs but I was able to get a "CableCARD" that plugged into the TV to bypass the set top box. But for that to work your TV needs to be able to accept digital cable signal

Do not spend a lot on HDMI cables, they are digital cords so they do not need to be made from gold. two 6 foot cords for $9.99 shipped http://www.meritline.com/193-142-0022.html I use these all the time ZERO problems

Screw it, I'll just get the regular HD box and get a DVD recorder. Thanks for the heads up. Do you know about DVD upconversion recorders/players? How's the quality on those? krawhitham
Yeah the I have a couple upconverters I bought a HD-dvd player that upconverts for $99 and a $33 no name plain upconverter from circuit city, they both function great. Well worth the investments. Sometimes I'm hard pressed do tell the difference between an upconverted DVD and the same movie on Blu-Ray or HD-DVD
krawhitham
I figured I didn't have to spend $50 for a cable, the salesman at PC richard was trying to get me to buy one. It is a digital signal so it either works or it doesn't (no interference or anything like that), but with analog signals YES spend the money
