redsox
Does anyone know of a list of essential processes that must be running in the background? When I run way too many applications my system lags a little and I would like to terminate those processes that are not essential. BTW, I am talking about the list of processes that are displayed when you press ctrl+alt+del (Windows Task Manager) and look under the Processes tab. EDIT: Also, is there a huge difference (performance wise) between using the Windows classic style and Windows XP style for the windows and buttons? MarkB
You can go to Black Viper for a very nice list of what programs are essential and what you would use, based on your individual configuration. Also, I did find a very large performance difference when customising XP for all of it's visual and performance options, but simply switching to Classic or Standard will definitely give you a noticeable performance boost. I'm actually using Vista on Windows Standard. Used the XP themes for about a year after I got my built-with-XP PC in '01, switched to Standard, and haven't been back to XP themes since.
