NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A lawsuit filed Friday by a former St. Louis Rams player and others seeks millions of dollars in damages from the alleged taping of Rams practices by the New England Patriots before the 2002 Super Bowl.

The Patriots won the game 20-17 in the Superdome.

The $100 million suit, filed on behalf of former Rams player Willie Gary in U.S. District Court in New Orleans, names the Patriots, team owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick.

First: Uh... wow?

Second: Who the F is Willie Gary?

Do you really think it can happen? If the courts set that kind of precedent... what if every player on every team that ever lost to the Pats during this "video taping era" sued... is there enough money printed in the world for the Pats to give away?

I lost $1000 on a Vegas bet on that game. I'm suing the pats for 600 million. I want my 1000 bucks back, plus the thousand that I would have made, plus interest and 599,998,000 bucks for the grief I felt. Yeah, I love the legal system.

Why we are at it, I'm suing the NBA referees for not calling some traveling on Michael Jordan, that probably cost me some bets. I'm suing Bonds for taking steroids since I bet against him that he would NOT break Aaron's record. I'm suing Lance Armstrong because we all KNOW he cheated and I bet against him at the time. I'm suing Don Denkinger for making the wrong call in the 1985 World Series. I'm suing Shoeless Joe Jackson because he conspired the throw the 1918 world series. I'm suing the NHL ref who said Brett Hull scored that goal against the Sabres in the stanley cup final. I BETTER GET PAID. THIS IS RIGHT. THIS IS AMERICA.

Or maybe he wants his Super Bowl ring back.

Agreed. It seems that this guy didn't do anything else with Football and if he won the Super Bowl, at least he would have that and who knows what other doors it would have opened for him.

But as what was said, this would lead to an unthinkable precident and one can only wonder how far this can be taken. What if someone bought the NFL vids and books about the Pats' Super Bowl wins as well as perhaps a Brady jersey because of the SB wins? Should they get their money back too? LOL

PS Someone on the TV today said that this potentially can overshadow and outweigh what is going on in Baseball with the Steroids issue. Do you agree and which do you think is worse for the sport (since NFL destroyed the tapes)?

In my opinion, it's no different than someone using steroids or throwing a spit ball. It's cheating. I don't understand why this case should entitle someone to $100M, while the others don't.

Could you argue that all of the results of games played by Barry Bonds would have been different if he didn't use steroids? Should they go back and make every game he ever played in, a loss?

Plus, who is to say that the Rams would have won that Super Bowl regardless of the Patriots cheating. It's one thing to catch someone cheating in the act.... but to say 10 years later that the results in the history books should be changed, is a bit much.

With all due respect, it's my understanding the only thing the Pats taped was the 2 minute drill of the Rams and the Rams didnt get to use those plays until the 2nd half so what was the problem til then?

Even if that was true, that's the most important part of the game. That's where the Giants won it this year.
